Texas floriculture

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

A very interesting article in the Business section of today's San Antonio Express News describes how important the greenouse/nusery business is to the Texas economy. In the agricultural sector, dollarwise, it comes in third behind cattle and cotton but ahead of broilers. The article featured a nursery I'd not heard about - Mortellaro's - with a 70 acre farm and sales center in Schertz and a 200 acre farm in Poteet. Looks very interesting. Has anyone visited there recently?

No I haven't, but I sure would like to visit them. Where are those towns located?
I wonder if they are very far from Arlington.

Schertz is notheast of San Antonio, and Poteet is 20 miles south. With gas prices being what they are, you might want to combine several outings....Poteet is the Strawberry Capitol and the annual festival is schduled for April 7,8,9. Or a visit to San Antonio's Fiesta which is about 10 days at the end of April. Of course, the Botanical Garden and our other nurseries are always ready to greet you. C'mon down!

The San Antonio fiesta in April sounds great, I hope that we can make it.
Thank you for the information.
Josephine.
