Hoya Chieng Mai

Long Beach, CA

I recently got a hoya with this name. Is this a legit name? I never heard of it before. No blooms on it so I can't say for sure what else it might be. It has leaves that are very thick like pachyclada, but more round and bigger like australis. I will try to get a pic tomorrow.

Yes, I saw that name somewhere in all my recent searching. Can't quite remember where at the moment but if I can find it again I'll post a link. It sounds interesting.

Hi Marcy, Carol, I think I read in David Liddle's 2005 catalogue that Hoya pottsii sp. 'Chiang Mai ' is the correct name for H. subquintuplinervis. I can't check as my computer crashed and I lost some info including the downloaded catalogue. If anyone has a copy maybe you could check?

take care

I just looked at the Catalogue and there is no reference to H. subquintuplinervis... It isa lovely H. pottsii.

Ok....will try to get some pics in here. The first one is the plant on a childs table in an 8 in pot. The second one is it next to my regular H. pottsii. It has leaves much larger and thicker. It almost looks like glabra, but not really. I have glabra too, and it is different.

From what I understand...H. pottsii, found in many different countries, is very variable. David Liddle has 8 different ones on his sales list from Australia, and then the one clone from Cheing Mai in Thailand makes 9. All of their leaves are different. I have 3 or 4 including a new one from Vietnam, and they are very different from eachother. I like the species...some have very colorful leaves in the sun!!!

Ah...OK, that makes sense. Are they hard to get to bloom? I have had a couple of them for 3 years & not had a bloom yet.
