The flowers are much smaller then I expected and they are too high to sniff. LOL
I think I heard they are fragrant but I will have to get a step out there to know. Taylor, is this Yunnanensis or Corymbosa?
I grew this from seed last year. I grow it in a big pot along with Mandevilla Laxa. It gets full sun and water everyday.
Bauhinia Vines first blooms
I am baffled as to why mine hasn't bloomed yet - it's a huge tuber and foliage galore. Yours is lovely and I can't wait to see mine bloom!
Donna!
Whoo hoo! for YOU! lol...
You have the corymbosa! They are white with the violet streaking. The Yunan. are lavender with violet streaking...
Get a stepstool! lol...I wanna know what it smells like!!
Hopefully this means mine will be doing that in a few weeks, now...
;0)

OK, I will get the step out after dinner & see if I can smell anything besides BBQ smoke. LOL Are the Yunans as tiny as this?
Thanks Kay, I hope yours start performing soon! I did not realize they made a tuber. Interesting!
Yep, that looks about the same size...
...bbq smoke, lol...

ok, I climbed the ladder & lived to tell about it. (I do not have a very good track record with ladders, we tend to go our seperate ways:~).
I cannot detect any smell at all! I don't know where I got the idea they were fragrant, but mine ain't. LOL
I will continue to check at different times of the day, but I thought if it was gonna smell, it would be at its strongest in the evening. Oh well, I am not too terribly disappointed. The mandevilla laxa makes up for it.
Thanks for the size confirmation Taylor, I would imagine once it is covered in flowers it will not matter how small they are. :~)

We got that information from Annie's, remember? It said the corymbosa were fragrant.
I am waiting to dig my yunan. in, because if the corymbosa truly are fragrant, I'd rather have another corymbosa in its place...
I used to think passiflora 'blue boutique' had no scent until one cloudy, humid afternoon just before a rain. It about knocked me over! lol...

very pretty!!!
Donna,
your blooms are stunning.
Thank you! :~)
Well, it is still blooming & now I have seedpods forming! I am really happy about that. Still cannot detect a scent though, but not really surprising with my allergies. I have had butterflies and carpenter bees at it on a regular basis. They have done a good job because everwhere I had a bloom I now have a seedpod starting. Taylor, did yours ever start blooming?
pretty awrsome flowers. do you all have problems with the ants on this vine?? i have had them eating both this vine and my bauhinia tree. i have lost the vine and didnt even get a chance to see the flowers. the tree i hope will make it as i transplanted it into a pot and put in the green house.
Donna-
Yours is doing much better than mine! Mine hasn't even started blooming, yet! It is twice as big as the Yunan., but no flowers...*sigh

Ps-my yunannensis had cute little pods like that, but they dropped off after about a week...I thik we just haven't had enough rain...
News said last night we are seven inches behind on rain for the year.
I try to supplement, but ...

I have them in 2 large pots on either end of my swing. The other pot has not got any buds OR blooms on it. Just got lucky I suppose.
Oh shoot, we were typing at the same time. Sorry. Well that is really the pits about your seedpods falling off! I will have to watch mine & see if that happens here too.
LOL...Which pot is the one blooming? The one closer to the sun, or further away?
-T
East side
Not knowing what exposure the other is, I still can't tell which is sunnier, LOL...
Does the other one face north, or south, or west? lol...
-T
LOL, what, you can't read my mind? LOLOL
West is the other. Sorry too so long, just got home. Castro Valley RU was today & we had a BLAST! :~)
PMP...check out the Round Up forum...for photos from the RU !
I just saw it! That was so much fun, wasn't it? I am gonna have to unload my pics & post them. Wonder how our group photo turned out? LOL
