Just to let you all know, the International Hoya Association is revamping it's newsletter, FRATERNA, to be more 'user friendly', more pertinent to hobbyists and much more interesting. The 'new' look/contents will start this last quarter. Membership to IHA is reasonable. Also, The World of Hoyas by Kloppenberg is being republished with much better paper, better photographs and art and with some changes. This book, I have found, is a vast improvement over the last. Finally we CAN have a magazine about hoyas and a good reference book. Anyone wanting more information can send me a D-mail. NO, I am not selling either - just making the knowledge available.
Carol
Edited to correct the name of International Hoya Association.

Revamped FRATERNA, republished book
Excellent! I used to be a member of the IHS but dropped my subscription after the first year. I'm glad they are revamping it. The newsletter was always very professionally done and had nice photos. I liked looking at the pretty pictures and seriously detailed descriptions of new hoya but there was very little for the hobbyist in it. I liked it when Ann Wayman did a "ten favorite hoya" article. It would be neat too if there was cultural information on a featured hoya on a regular basis. Everthing you ever wanted to know about H. ______. Prefered soil, light, bloom season, min/max temperature range for optimum growth, section of Hoya it belongs to, prefered fertilizer, native to..... Wish they would also offer IHA tee shirts.
I will have to get out there and renew my membership.
Susan
aHA Susan...you hit the nail on the head! There WILL be cultural information in a Q & A format - open to all who have questions and write in.
I am looking forward to a magazine where I can read what others think/do/have/try in their hoya growing life.
Carol
Hip hip hooray, me too! I just got a membership, couldn't have picked better timing!

Great news! I have received the publications for many years, usually skip all the technical detail, (way too deep for me), but have always loved the pictures and easier to read articles. Years ago they used to do interviews with different growers/sellers, and they always offered lots of great information. I occassionally go back and reread those articles. I would really like to see them feature a Hoya (with a picture of leaf & flower) and show all the different names it may have been sold under, to help us out in getting our plants in the direction of being correctly named. They certainly don't need to say who sold what, under what name, just list the names used for the plant. I am really looking forward to seeing the next issue. Thanks Carol for giving us all this information.
Susan, I like your idea of the "Everything you wanted to know about H. __________ too. Deb
Carol, what is the hoya on the front, I definitely want to get one of those! Great looking leaves and flowers!
~Heather
The front of what, Heather?
Slow and Dense in Hawaii
Sorry Carol, I forgot about the heat over there. I meant hoya at the top of this thread. Round here in Minneapolis, we are quick and cold. Don't look before we leap so to speak. At least that's true for me.
~Heather
OH...it is H. chlorantha. I just put it up for decoration...hehehe
Yea, I have that, mine is undergoing surgery right now! Mealies, but I think I might have finally got them this time. I guess I wouldn't know what my leaves look like because I only have two on the little guy! Thanks!
~Heather
Bumped.

How funny this should pop up. I signed up on Friday. Does the news letter come to your e-mail?
Tami
I sent my registration for the Fraterna the middle of Sept. In the confirmation they said volume 18 would be mailed at the end of the month. Good thing I didn't dispose of that confirmation email as I haven't recieved a copy since I rejoined.
OH, here is the email address to sign up: www.international-hoya.org/
Well...keep the receipt Susan...see ifyou get 18 or 19....they are in transition to new systems now.
No, newletter comes in the mail.
Carol
I did the same thing as Susan. I signed up late august/early september, but I haven't heard a peep. I just e-mailed someone there to see if they have my information and my $18. Hopefully I will hear back (and get my very own copy of Fraterna).
Keepin' the fingers crossed...
ann
I talked to the Editor....she said Rainbow Gardens still has the contract for the Memberships and they are less than efficient. She said to let her know if you have any problems with your subscription...hoyaannie@aol.com .

I just received my first issue (September) after joining in August. At the time I signed up I was told my first issue of 'Fraterna' would arrive at the end of September. I waited two months and finally sent an enquiry by email. It was answered promptly and I received my September issue last week.
I am hoping the next issue will arrive on time in December.
Shirley
Fraterna sounds like a awesome magazine, and I'm interested in joining. However after reading the posts on difficulity in receiving it, I'm having second thoughts. Hopefully Rainbow Garden will get their act together and do what is necessary to make sure the new memberships get to the right person.
Blessings,
Awanda
If you joined through the IHA, would there be a different person to contact. Honestly, can't remember if I went to Rainbow Gardens or not?
Heather
When I inquired about the status of my membership, I received a reply from Jerry Williams, Membership secretary, IHA, RBGdns@aol.com.
Shirley
It's a long story...not worth repeating...but Ann will get it all worked out and the magazine will be worth it.
Carol
Any word on when C. Burton's book will be ready/available?
