Home Depot had this one. They had lots of tropicals tonight. And they actually had an automatic watering system installed. I was so impressed.
It was labeled as Dancing Jewel Globba. A 6 inch pot. It was a very mini one with about 8 blooms on it. I wonder if it was Globba sp. 'Purest Angel'.

Isn't this cute?
It is very pretty.
oh Kell I need that one with the burgundy backed leaves. I'll trade you a Yellow Dancing Ladies for some of yours. Need to wait until it cools off some first. Let me know
Wow, I love that burgundy leafed one! Kell, the globbas flower all summer.
hey, my HD didn't have those! or maybe I missed them. Will just have to go again.....
;-)
My HD didn't have them either! We should call the main office and tell them we want what Kell's HD has!!!
Gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kaleem
I must say they had tons of good stuff. And they are watering them too! I am going back. I need that butterfly standard. Thanks to you, Suz. I just found out I am not going to work. So I will go spend all the money I am not making.
They had several kinds of baby calatheas too. This one had velvet leaves. Are they hard to grow?
Those last ears look like African Mask (Alocasia amazonica) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/2574/index.html
I killed my first African Mask - - - didn't realize that this one really like SHADE.
The calatheas are really easy...here. Grow like weeds. SHADE, warmth and water!
well then
i'm off to HD :-)
Dick
Oh, sure Carol....(lol!)
I can imagine Calatheas love it there!!
Isn't that the way it goes, though....someone many many states away find the *best* things at HD....everyone else checks, and *zilch*!!!
Nice finds!! I'm envious!
(Quoting kell) "I was meant to be born rich. And beautiful. And a nursery owner. With a brain. Someone is walking around with my real life."
(You took the words right outta my mouth! lol!)
Yea, easy for Carol to say! LOL
Nan, we were also meant to be born in Hawaii!
I saw that Globba yesterday in WalMart....I thought it was too expensive at 8.00. Must be a new release!!!
Believe me...I never take my good fortune for granted...and if I could share any part of it, I would!!!! That's why I love sharing plants....and these forums!!! Bob gets so HO HUM and excited only about Palms and Bamboos, and my little brains is going over all the othr stuff!!!! He is not terribly social and strangers wierd him out or I would be running a open door policy for everyone!!!!
LOL
Well, Carol, thats why you have DG to satisfy that brain! At least your hubby likes some kind of plants, Kell and I comiserate about ours! I am trying to talk him into going with me to Florida and he is major resisting, something about "no way am I running around to nurseries on my vacation!" or something like that. Dont know where he would get that idea. Silly man.
On another topic, I cant believe I have never even seen a hoya yet, just online on your site and peeked over at the forum. Maybe I shouldn't even look for one, not even go there. This new tropical addition is bad enough. Of course those fit right in right? Yeah, I think they do! Oh no........someone help me.
Ok I am off again to HD, always following Kell around after her discoveries and sometimes visa versa. Wouldnt be surprised if we someday run into each other grabbing for the same plant and fight for dibs! Ahhhhh, there's always cuttings and divisions! Just gotta work on that.
Does he bowl or golf?
You sure that aint a blade of grass? LOL! Or one of those prolific Fortnight Lily - Butterfly Iris? I had a volunteer one, let it grow to see what it was and within a few years it was 3 ft wide!
Ok now I am really off!
Oh .............. Susie told me it was a palm. I should by now know not to believe that girl. Do you think she was just teasing me?
No, he plays watch sports from a couch.
I admit I could be wrong Kell, but the wrinkles in the middle of the leaf made me think it was a palm.
I would never tell a big fib, my stories are always a little bit true(except for a couple of them like the bug poo story and the mushroom story and the fairy spider story and the alien frog story but the one about the palm seedling was true to the best of my knowledge)
LOL Susie. I always believe you, too. Well, we all have been emailing all day long and now we are going to start to chat on the threads? We are sick!! I am going to go to HD fast before Tom comes home for Sushi. I am going to try to get him to stop at the Conservatory again. Fat chance.
Another day with nothing done but I have had lots of fun! LOL I will grow out my baby palm tree and see. LOL
I'm heading home. Gotta clean the house.
Sure looks like a baby palm tree to ME!!!
Kell/Sue - why don't the two of you take off - together - to Fla or S. California and do the nursery thingy and have a blast. !
Carol
Don't tempt me, I do enough damage here.
Not all Targets and Home Depots are alike....grrrrr. I went to 2 HD and they didnt have any of these tropicals you mentioned Kell, nada. The 2 Targets I went to have a different 1/2 price sales system, guess the one by my house was the best, 1/2 off after 30 days of its arrival even if not marked. Oh and I got busted yesterday at the HD by my house. I was walking in the nursery dept. (where else), minding my own business (ok, I had 2 varigated hebe's, a pineapple guava and a HUGE grandifloria passion vine with blooms and 6 bags of potting soil in my cart) when my DH comes walking up and says, "quit buying more SH**. he doesn't swear but I was standing by the steer manure so I think he gets pleasure out of saying that. He came for some stuff and saw my car and knew where to find me. Anyways, he looks at my cart and shakes his head and says "Can you spell Obsession?!" I told him about your hubby Kell, that they are alike and we compare notes and now enable each other, he grinned, shaking his head again & then pulled out his HD card to pay for my stuff and helped me load it. :-)
He's a keeper, Sue!
