We have had this birdbath for about 10 years and I've hardly ever seen birds use it. We have our 4x8 pond now that they do use, so I want to use the birdbath for bog plants. If I put some dirt in and then plants (in their pots) and then gravel up to the top of the birdbath, when it rains will there still be water there for mosquitos in between the gravel? (By the way this is DW of the Silverfluter that usually posts on this thread.)
Can a birdbath be a bog without attracting mosquitos?
Something like this might help: http://www.gemplers.com/a/shop/list.asp?FNM=00&SKW=1MZMDKS&UID=2002081311270040&GEN2=&GEN3=&GEN9=0
I found these at my local Home Depot
Mosquito Dunks work great, and won't harm fish or plants...You can break off smaller chunks for smaller pots/ponds, but they also carry it in pellet form, for ditches and standing open water.
