cala, how old was yours before it started blooming? i ordered one online and in fact it just arrived today. i am thinking of giving it kind of a star place in the garden, but am afraid its going to look like a messy garbage/banana pile.LOLOL anyway, im interested in talking to people who have them. its about 4' tall in a teeny pot and i cant put it in the ground yet-due to husbanditis notyetus. (we have some ground prep to do on the front) so i am going to move it to a bigger pot. any suggestions would be welcomed! debi

LOL Track, I have "husbandalwayshavexcuseitis" so I dig the holes myself. I had a gardener for a while, but he was more trouble than he was worth, so I fired him.
I bought this banana at the first Florida swap, Glory was still alive. We went to Earl's nursery(man, that was a cluttered place, plants everywhere) and Glory and I sat under the shelter because we were afraid of snakes! We saw the little baby banana plants and each of us bought one or two. They grew fast, I kept mine in a pot till we moved here to TX, Roz grew hers in the ground and it bloomed a year before mine. They don't get very tall, but they get wide, they put out pups right at the base, different from other bananas.

oh, believe me cala, i dig the holes myself too! we have major prep work involving trucks and bobcats-i am not capable of that-altho i could be in my next life! here is a picture of my new pup. i want to repot today. do you think it has been actually growing all along in this pot or did they just put it in here for shipping? i am going to email them and find out (im just the curious type when it comes to this kind of stuff).

It could have grown in that pot! It should really take off and grow fast when you move it to a bigger pot. It looks good.

thanks, i think so too. not so much as a torn leaf in shipping. its almost 4' from bottom to top of leaf! debi

Suzie, mine got a bloom last November, and lasted the intire winter outside, and is still there, much smaller of course. But I have another little baby one on a tiny little nana offset at the bottom of the plant. Need a picture? Sorta funny looking.

Sebring, FL

5 weeks ago I bought two Golden Lotus Banana (Musella lasiocarpa) at Home Depot here in Sebring . The first one is quite large and tall with many pups but no flower. The folowing week I found the other one with a flower much shorter with many pups to. Two beautiful specimen for the price of $32.00 each "a bargain"
I planted them directly in the ground in full sun and they are doing fantastic. The hard part was to dig the hole it had to be a big one because the plant is so large. Since we have
only sand in our ground I used Scoties gardensoil in the bottom of the hole added a good amount of osmocote plant foof sit the plant hadded more black dirt all oround the plant up to the top more osmocote bunches of mulch lots of water et voila. Ouf!!! My banana tree has almost double in size. Provide adequate drainage . while growing provide ample water. They do grow fast
