Highland, CA(Zone 9a)

oh good.
whats celebrex?does it help with fibro myalga?

(Zone 4b)

Den, you suffer from fibro myalga? I have a family member who also suffers, and she claims that sleeping on a goose down mattress cover has helped her enormously. I've also heard of some wonderful experiences with Reiki massage. It can relax the muscles without actually touching them.

Knoxville, TN

hey ,,yes,I am sorry to say I have the old Fibro too.I have
been dealing with it for 10 years now.The Celabex is a
anti flam that is the only thing that help.I can't take
pain meds.so I try to find other ways to help.Someone has
given me a new thing o try,so I will let you know if it
helps.i have also heard the feather mattress helps or a feather comfort to sleep on.I can't ever get ahead enought
buy one.I once had the reiki massage insurance will not cover it. So maybe a goose will fly
by hear and drop off a bag of feathers//

Highland, CA(Zone 9a)

yes,the dam fibro is flairing!too much spring left summer a pain.
i have night sweats so bad im afraid a down comforter would leave me sleepless.
ive never heard of reiki,is it a machine?or human?
thanks

(Zone 4b)

Den,
you maka me laugha - Reiki is a form of sorta-kinda massage done by people - no machines. It can relieve muscle-tension (which, as I understand it, is a major part of the fibro pain), but it's not necessary to actually touch the skin. It's one of those flaky, new age, kooky things - but it works!! I practice it, as do a few others on this site, and essentially, it's a laying on of hands type healing. I've heard from people with fibro who've had fantastic results from it.

Herblady, did you find that Reiki helped relieve some of your pain? I'm really interested in other people's experience with this type of healing, especially in cases where the pain is ferocious.

hi, i'm an RSDer. 8 years for me. i recently had someone tell me about this. it has to do with the easing of the fascia(sp?) muscles. which of course with chronic pain our muscles get like rocks, even were the "pain" isn't happening. our bodies react all sorts of ways to the stimulous of pain.
have someone lay there hand on your shoulder blade muscle area, lightly. then just leave it there. It helps if the person attempts to send positive thoughts and feelings through themselves to you, while there doing this. now feel how the muscle just relaxes on its own. you can feel it. then move the hand(s) to another area .
so even if you don't have the money, perhaps someone you know will help you with this.
my insurance doesn't pay for massage, or any other form of hands on treatments that work wonders for those of us with this type of pain. until such time as they do, i guess we'll all just have to help each other.

Oh I had the whole body one last year ,I was worked on for
1 hour and I had melted down and slid out the door.I was also amazed when they told me different spaces where they could feel heat,a sign of painful area's .What was so odd is that the places they found were places that I had injuries or inflamed lol I also was told to be aware that
I would feel very emotional in about 3 or 4 days ,well I completely forgot and about 4 days later I was with my daughter in a store and this lady lost our pictures and I got so upset I cryed and then when I got home I cryed some more and the next day i remembered what they told me and I flipped out so bad,I called my therapist and asked what they did to me ,she said it was ok they had released all
the tension and pain .lol I said well I am never doing that again!!! be the funny thing was I felt alot better for a long time after that.I don't know how I managed it but the person was a massage therpist who did this as well.

(Zone 4b)

Yeah lol, Reiki doesn't just work on the physical body, but on a deeply emotional level as well - it rebalances the chakras, and from what I've learned, these chakras are the energy points that affect all levels of our being. Alot of emotional tension is carried in muscular and skeletal tension. You can't release one without releasing the other :)

I remember vividly the day I got my first level Reiki initiation - I swung wildly from exultantion and awe to crying maniacly. Everything was so incredibly emotional! But it's SO worth it to go through that heavy intense emotional drain to have the balanced tranquility that comes after everything's been purged. I've known people who once told me that they couldn't afford Reiki treatment, and who, after they'd had it, would then say that they couldn't afford NOT to have it :)

The more regularly you receive treatment, the more able your body will be to receive the Reiki energy, and the more lasting its effects will be. You remain "in balance" for longer periods of time, and the tension you carry doesn't build up as much, so there's not as much to purge in each session. It DOES get easier, and the emotional swings less abrupt :)

I'm so glad it was a positive and healing experience for you, herblady! I wish more people were aware of Reiki - it's so helpful and non-invasive. I like to think of it as a shower of healing sunshine!

I have fibro and other things that cause pain. I am unable to take any of the meds. that would really help due to bad stomach. I sometimes think if the aches and pains would just go away I would be a much nicer person. Pain tends to made one a little grumpy sometimes. Don't you just get tired of going to bed with pain and then when you get up it is still there?

Knoxville, TN

hey honey i really feel for u,it's sad that they can send a man to the moon, but we can't wake u without pain,i think
one of the biggest problems is the depression it cause, like yourself it make me so touchy, sad, and crying alot.i wish there was something i could send you,lol pain plant.

Hi,
The orthopedic doctor threw a fit because I increased my celebrex from one to two a day. At least I could walk with two pills, and get my shopping done, and a little done in the yard--no shoveling or much bending.

I left the office crying as I was in pain and he told me to go back to GP. I just developed arthritis in both knees the past four months, and never had any trouble before. I know I am destined for knee replacements, but no way would I go back to a doctor who offered no emotional support or ideas on how to deal with this.

I'm just now realizing this is a change in my quality of life. I'm having to change my outdoor gardening to indoor projects and plan on living with pain.

I just went off all medications, as this incident has been so frustrating. It just seems like the doctors have the control over your well being with meds that could make life easier, and will withdraw it if you depend on it -- so I'll do without.

I started taking GLucosamine Chondrotin --has anybody tried that. Next spring I am building a brick porch outside my triple and double French Doors, in case I have to get out by wheelchair or walker. (a great place for my plants)

Shame on the Medical Profession.

Sis,
Thank you for your note. I'm finding that I'm no better off without the Celebrex--still have very sore knees.

I'm just taking one GS -- is it o.k. to take more? What is DH? The nurse recommended that I wear sneakers all the time for better support, and that seems to help. I've taken some ivprofen, but that is hard on the stomach.

Hi, I found Reiki, very relaxing/soothing, but not paid for by insurance, so had to give it up. 4(?) years I got Chronic Fatigue Symdrome , then fibromyalgia hit,and I had to leave my career. I am trying different supplements, as I cannot take too many anti-inflammatory drugs. One of the best things I have found for my joint pain , is an herbal oil combination, that a friend got for me from a medicine woman in western Montana. My ankle /foot pain had been so bad, that I was worried that I would need crutches on the plane. I am NOT graceful on crutches. The oil works for some people and not for others. It is put on the joint, not taken internally, so it does not bother my reflux issues. I have the recipe on file and would be happy to send it to anyone. The ingredients are cottonwood buds, arnica, and St.John's Wort individually cooked in oil and then blended. It has helped me, my sister, her friend,(some has been mailed to friend's aunt in Lithuania) my hairdresser and her mom. Just let me know and I will send out the information. Marcia

I'm sorry about your pain and you know what's

Hi,

Just have to tell someone--this is my 4th day of no Celebrex. I took ibbrophen 400 yesterday -- and also took a Loranzapam. Today I am abt 50% better--and discontinued one blood pressure medication. I'm not recommending this to anyone, but as for my body, I usually end up with a strange side effect from most meds, so I'm trying to go off meds and correct my diet, continue with the GS, St. John's Wort, if necessary, and ocassionally will take a tylenol or ibprofen.

I feel more hopeful today that this is working and I won't be in unbearable paid the rest of my life. I wanted to call the doctor and tell him how much better I feel, but I don't think he cares. So, what I have is either this is just a good day ( no matter what med program I follow) or getting off the Avapro and Celebrex and pain killers helped.

I'm not to proud to say that being overweight is not helping the stress on my knees, so I'll work on that and keep the salt and fat and sugar down.

It's happened to me before--I take responsibility for my own medical regiment and cut out the strong meds--then my body heals. Not recommending this to anyone, you understand--it has a lot to do with knowing your own body.

Hi Myself, glad you are better today. I do need to mention something though. You might already know but St.John's
Wart can make you get a rash(sun sensitive) I had to quit
as my skin felt like needles were sticking me,hurt too'Not
all people get the reaction but I sure did,no fun. Please
be careful.

Hi gang,

yes st Johns wart is actually a poison you see but they found taken in small quantities it can relax muscles and help with sleep and other things... even with natural thereapies you must be careful. i took (and i cant spell it) icnasia? and i landed in hospital in like a anafalatic shock.. I had to be on anithystamines for almost two years!! I have only been free of the side effects if that for a few months so do take care and perhaps seek professional help by a naturpath... just a thought.

I appreciate how difficult it can all be and the feeling of needing to have the control back in your life...

all the best

Laura

Such a long thread, and so many viewpoints and situations. I wanted to comment on several things, hope I recall the best or most useful ones. One of the doctors involved in my first day of cancer diagnosis was taking a list of every little thing I take, including herbs, etc. I mentioned glucosamine chondroitin, and he smiled and said he orders a lot of that for joint pain. I also take Siberian ginseng since a former son-in-law who is still dear to me suggested it for hot flashes or sweats that had tormented me for 30 years. It turned out to be just a general all around help as well as controlling the sweats, and seems to give me a sense of well being that is is priceless to a depressive personality. And I use a lot of B vitamins, especially B6. It's a good diuretic and also helps with energy. I have many of the intolerances I noticed were mentioned here, and my system doesn't respond normally to many things, so it's good to find something that helps even a little bit. Last, but far from least, I need to address reiki. A friend of my son and daughter-in-law was told about my cancer and the problems associated with chemo. She asked if I would agree to let her try reiki. So, about my third chemo, she came to the hospital ( I was in for transfusions and infection at the time the chemo was due), and gave me a treatment after the chemo but before the pains set in. If you've never had chemo, you won't know what I mean, but let me say it's like having 10 bad cases of flu all at once. Well, I can honestly say, I didn't think it would help, but felt it wouldn't hurt, so I agreed, mostly to satisfy my curiosity. Without question, it was the shortest and easiest of all my post chemo pain sessions. I have had two more treatments, courtesy of this dear lady, and now I think I need to call and ask for another. I had forgotten until it was mentioned here. Yes, the emotions are unbelievable. I was unable to keep from crying the first time, and some the second and third. I had other responses that defy description, and even if it didn't help the pain, which it did in a big way, the release was enough to bring me to my knees. I'm not sure what all happens, as she never touched me except when she was doing something at the top of my head, but I do know there is an energy that is magic involved with it. Sorry for the lengthy post, but this really got into an area I live every day. Almost all of my problems are here!
