I've owned this plant and killed it 3? times. Strophanthus preussii
This past year, I finally decided I should overwinter it at work, where it's cooler at night.
When spring rolled around, it had lost all but 5 or 6 leaves, so I took it home and decided to grow it out on my deck in it's beloved warmth and humidity.
Look what happened!!!

Look what bloomed!
Nan,
What is it?
Leaves look like a Crocodilus.
I'm going to say Bat Flower but I don't think that is what it is....lol. It's neato! The leaves kind of look like a brugmansia leave.

Oh oh I know, I know, Strophanthus preusii, and thats only because I just saw it in the Vines And Climbers forum and had never heard of it.
OOPS, sorry! I thought I had included it in the title....Calif_Sue's got it right!
I'll have to fix that!
Kewl !!!

Hey, I am trying to wait till spring! LOL.
I saw some online the other day in a gallon pot. I think I found them by looking in Plantfiles and they had 2 venders that sold them.
Oh shucks, I just got Logees catalogue and was not going to look. Now you got me going. LOL I am so weak.
I had one and killed it. I think they're kind of fussy.
that is so neat looking!! If its fussy... that's not the plant for me... I'm a lazy gardener ;-) Throw it in the swamp and see if it makes it is my idea of gardening right now.
You killed it Susie?? Are you sure it was not Bleu??
I am getting lazy too,Trish. But I have no swamp. I do not even have rain.
Thanks Susie, if it is fussy, it mst wait till spring then. Is this the cool one Frannie sent us?? I kept mine going all winter and then it died in spring!! I was so mad.
Glad you like it!
I still can't believe it bloomed (much less *lived* (lol!) for me!!
It should do well for you folks in Florida, I would think.
Seems to enjoy summer's heat and humidity, but likes a cool location during the winter
I got mine from Gardino's, Carol.

They always send really nice sized, (bigger than Logee's!) healthy plants.
You're bad Nan, posting the link.....lol. There is to many things that are neat but can't get.
:) Donna
Kell, I would like to blame it on Bleu, but he wasn't even born when I killed it, lol.
