We have never grown these before but they look beautiful. Can someone tell us if they are an annual or perinneal in zone 8a? How tall do they get? So we will know where to place them. Thanks tons
Love these babies but we need some info
Wow!! Such general questions!! hehehe These are all perennial grown as annual north of zone 10 and 11 I believe it is. I live in zone 7/8 and you CAN overwinter these outside if you cut to the ground and mulch heavily before the first frost. How tall they get depends on kind and how much water, fertilizer, etc. They can be anywhere from 3' to 8'!! There are tons of hybrids to choose from, they all can be started from seed--what you get from seed may not be true to parent owing to possible cross polination during the growing season or even better and most often via cutting. Cuttings root very easily in warmth. In TX you certainly could overwinter outside with mulch!! I do it in SC so you will be fine. Your plants will likely get bigger than mine do. These plants need LOTS of water--but not to sit in water. Do not like wet feet--the roots will rot if left in standing water. I water in the morning and in evening after sunset. Not as much as I would like but I have Mosquitos real bad 24/7 in my yard and get eaten alive every single time!! Be careful with handling these plants though as they are toxic and the oils getting on your skin can cause problems--temporary in most cases but not pleasant. I recommend wearing gloves whenever touching. But they are well worth everything!!! You will enjoy these!!! Bonnie
Bonnie -Very well done!!
seedsandmore,
Might I suggest you go to this link www.brugmansias.com (Brug Plant Files) and look at all the Brugs and the notes people have left for each brug. Also searching for information on the Forum Search and narrow it down to the Brug Forum will give you lots of info. There are a couple of books on the subject check out the Garden Bookworm tab above.
BUT the very best way to learn all about Brugs is to jump right in and get yourself one or more.
Welcome to Brug Addiction.

Bonnie - while living in Charleston I discovered Avon Skin-so-soft. I've always been extremely attractive to mosquitos. So if you don't like the deepwoods type stuff, break out the Skin-so-soft.
Bonnie ,
..............you wrote "" what you get from seed may not be true to parent owing to possible cross polination during the growing season "" end.
The SEEDS WILL NOT EVER be true to the parent unless you have b.sanguinea , b. arborea and I think b.Vulcanicola selfs also.
Lets get this new brugaholic off on the right foot.
Hiya Seeds ;-)
Seeds you are on your way to becoming an ADDICT like the rest of us, I started out a year ago asking those same questions, now I have more Brugs growing than I ever thought I would, and in my zone all will need to be cut down and shared this fall, the rest will freez, so if you need cuttings this fall send me a D_email
