i couldn't stand the mosquitoes in the woods... I couldn't stand the sun in the vegetable gardens or the perennials borders....my new daylilies had not yet arrived....GOD FORBID I do housework....SO....
i dug me a pond. I found a shady spot of wasteland near the garage, and dug, and dug until it was almost 4' deep at the deep end....made a little trough, ran to the garden addict folks nearby and bought some roofing rubber. The next morning I filled it. It didn't leak. That was worth celebrating, so I went to Lowe's and bought a pump and filter as my prize.
It was a hot, humid hazy day, and....
I waited a day or so after adding some pea gravel, just letting the filter run, and everything worked. This seemed like a miracle to me ( all these years I thought it was just too tricky to set up a pond)....
So my husband tested the water and put in his two pet koi. They were happy to explore around. Day four, we went back to the nursery and DH picked out some water plants. He has been researching the plants, biological filters, and all the stuff that keeps ponds healthy. Which is cool. I'm going to work on the landscaping around it.
Now why didn' t I think of this sooner??
Back to work for me! Still need a few rocks, need to trim the hose, and work out planting around it....
Great job! Very pretty, looks like an established pond.

Welcome to the illness, dmc!!!!!
Great, just what I need....ANOTHER addiction? Why is digging a pond in the heat fun, while running the vacuum is to be avoided at all costs??
LOL, ain't it the truth. Nice job, dmcdevitt. :)
