That's pretty, now I need to see mine bloom. Is it named Big Yella because the bloom is huge?

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I love this one. The way the flower hangs, the long points and the color! Very pretty.

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

Thank you....well Judy...I guess it is Big Yella because it is ummm...big and ummmm yella !!! LOL. just being silly....I dont know !! :)

Look at those long blond curls!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Does this brug have a history? Anybody know anything about it?

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

I think she's beautiful and I love her curls too. She's very lovely :-)

Charlotta, I'm interested as Vicki is about the history of this brug. Is it a seedling you grew out or a cutting that you received from a member or a plant nursery? She's really got some great traits going for her. Enquiring minds wanna know :-) lol

hugs

Okay guys....I should not admit this but it is so funny and so me...that I cant help myself.

This is my first summer with brugs and I had several in pots planning to keep only 1 or 2 in pots and put the rest in the ground to grow and take their chances.

I planted Big Yella in this spot...I got the cuttings from another grower. Then about a month ago...I decided it was time to cull out a few - so I took cuttings from the big yella (I have those rooting) and discarded the root ball because I liked some of the others better.

Now for the "maddness". This blooms smells better than it did the first time because....it is NOT Big Yella...it is whiskers that I planted in big yellas place. Oh Lordy, and I thought I only needed to tag my daylilies !

I've had such a big laugh at myself...now do you guys still like it as good now that you know what it is ? :)

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

Well heck yeah!!!! lol "Since I don't have Whisker's lol...only crosses with 'Whisker's' genes in the seedlings I'm growing out for some sweet Dger's :-) LOL you're so funny LOL

I love her, she's really pretty....now I know why she's used alot in crosses. Butterfly is one I would love to have too but don't. You Go Girl!!! What ever it is you're doing with this girl, she love's the heck outta it!

Hugs
Julie

Whiskers has a special history thanks to Gloria. Your flower is beautiful.

Now ... back to Big Yella ... who is she/he?

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

LOL, I didn't think that looked like 'yella'

Vicki, I'm surprised you didn't recognize it. Whiskers is one of my favorite as far as shape and fragrance. So far, mine hasn't bloomed yet this summer and (knock on wood) so far the cats haven't attacked.

Dadburn it :) I don't know what Big Yella's supposed to look like. I sure can't tell the size of the flower from a picture. I've seen pale Whiskers flowers and nice yellow Whiskers flowers. Ugly flowers and beautiful flowers. Ugly plants and lush plants. Who the heck can keep track of'em anymore? .... huh? lol!
I can't help it Linda! .... All those yellows look alike to me ;)

On another Post I saw that Monika referred to Big Yella as Charles Grimaldi.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Oh that's great! lol! You mean we now have Charles Grimaldi/Jutner Orange/Big Yella?
"Hetty Kraus/Dr. Seuss/Rapture" and "Golfito/Isabella/Grandier Pink" welcome him to the 3 names club! :) Thanks Connie.

LOL this is confusing!

Vicki, go to the top of the page and enter Big Yella in the search box, then search Brugmansia topics started by kell. There are plenty of photos etc.

Story is, several years ago, Kell bought several unnamed plants from a hardware store near her house. She suspects they were grown from seeds as they are all a little different. She called one 'Big Yella' for obvious reasons. She has sent cuttings to many members. It is a deep orangy yellow that many think resembles Seuss or CG. Maybe one of them was a parent??

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

A good test would be for someone to try crossing Big Yellow with Grimaldi and see what happens. Thanks for the search tip and info Linda!

glad it was useful, you've given so much help to me.

Pickens, SC(Zone 7a)

I did save some cuttings from Big Yella..they are rooting now..I hope !

I also have a rooted whiskers or two if anyone wants to trade. I'm saving one for Tazzy but I think I have a couple others...may have a butterfly in a couple of weeks.
