Hannah-Banana...Another matchy dog in the house

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

I don't know what it is with us finding dogs that match the ones we have already! This one belongs to my MIL, who lives with us in her own apartment downstairs in our house.

When I read about this doglet on our local freecycle.org list, I thought she sounded intriguing. She's a little over a year old, a beagle/dachshund mix. Hannah's such a sweet thing and is has quickly become Nancy's baby.

It's been several months since Nancy's dachshund Jonah had to be put to sleep, and she's been making a lot of noises like she wanted a dog again. We felt pretty safe in bringing Hannah home; Howie figured if Nancy balked, we'd keep her upstairs with us. ;)

She had a couple of accidents the first day, but it was a big change. She was infested with fleas, so our vet gave us a Capstar tablet along with a tube of Frontline to put on a couple days after the fleas were killed. Man, that Capstar wipes them out...Poor thing was a wriggling, scratching mess when they started moving around and dying. She had fleas falling off of her like rain. It made Nancy and I both feel like WE were covered in them...You know, that creepy bug feeling?

Hannah's a cuddler, loves to play with her toys. She plays catch by herself, a nice feature in an active little dog. She definitely needs to be crated, we learned after Nancy made a quick trip to Wal-Mart for some toys and a dog bed. Hannah chomped on one of the mini-blinds, but it could have been worse. She's not a big fan of the crate just yet, but she settles down and doesn't bark too much. She's adjusting to it.

The offer's aunt got Hannah from a "breeder" as some new breed (*cough cough*). Not sure what happened that the aunt is not able to care for her, but this neice took Hannah in until a home could be found. Have you heard of medications given to puppies making them sterile? The woman told me Hannah was the runt and had been very sick as a puppy. The breeder told the woman's aunt that the medicine she had to take made Hannah sterile. She's never had a heat cycle, though she was a year old in June.

Look at that face! She's got a beagle's face, legs, and coloration...but a long body. What a doll.
