African Tulip Tree

Spring Valley, CA(Zone 10a)

Spathodea campanulata--

One of these suckers finally bloomed low enough, so I could finally climb up on the shed behind the garage and take a pic looking down. That's my hand in the pic, pulling the stem towards me.

I grew this tree from a rooted cutting a friend gave me about six years ago. I'd say it's probably about 18 feet now.

Wow, I love the bloom.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I remember the first time I saw this tree in bloom, I stopped in the middle of the road to look!
Mine froze back to the ground in the 100 yr snow at Christmas, but is about 3ft tall again. If they say it's going below freezing this year, I'm wrapping that baby in blankets!

Bet that wouldn't grow well here since we do get freezing temps sometimes!! How in God's name do you getting a cutting if it is 18 feet tall and the lowest branch is above your garage roof???? WOW!! It is sooooooo awesome!! I LOVE that MANY wildly beautiful flowers and things growing around the world!!! Just think, without Dave's Garden many of us would never even KNOW about MOST of them!!

THANK YOU DAVE!!!!
