I think these are soo pretty and delicate.
Mexican Blue Bells
Are these also called Mexican petunias? They are so pretty!
i just love that tall ruellia! you know you can cut a couple of stalks off and put them in water in the shade, in no time theyve got tons of roots! i like them because they bloom almost anywhere.
Hi Kell...I'm not really sure on that question? Maybe someone else will know the answer to it. And thank you!
Hey trackinsand.......
Yes these are very very easy to root! Plus...you can cut them wayyyyy back and it really doesn't even bother them. They just keep on growing!
One little word of warning though - they are very invasive and very difficult to remove from beds where you do not want them. I have tons and they are beautiful but they have just gotten in all my gardens to the point where I gotta dig them out (and you never get them all out).
Does anyone want any???
Ruba, you are so right - they are everywhere!! Do you have the pink? Do you have the big kind? I went crazy the first time I saw this, and planted lots, and believe me, they are everywhere, even across the yard!!
same here. i had them everywhere at the old house! im being more careful now. they are in a place that gets mowed when i need to! debi
Yes Roz, I have the pink and the blue and it is everywhere and multiplying fast. I am going to have to dig all my beds to try to get it up. Last year only had them in the back yard but somehow they are now in the front too. They are really pretty right now but they are trouble.
Guess I am lucky! Mine are in a big pot..not hardy here!!
Ruba, I think they are beautiful. I'd love some pink and blue. Would you like to trade? I had some last year but didn't overwinter it. Couldn't find it this year. I will overwinter it this year!
Most definately the Mexican Petunias. You can also just take cuttings and stick them into the soil, water frequently for the first week or so and off they go.
I haven't bought any of these in 3 years. Even when I moved, I didn't take plants, I just took cuttings, put them in the ground here, and there they are.
An interesting thing, I never owned any of the tall pink ones, and yet there is a pink bloom here and there among the purples.

OH!! I want purple/blue I have the pink ones which I like but I REALLY want blue! Anyone got some to spare???
I would love to trade for some of the mexican Petunia if anyone is interested.
Patricia
I don't think the Mexican Petunias will be as invasive in Ohio as they are in Mississippi.
I like the Katie series of dwarf ones, they do sooooooooo well here in the heat.
I have plenty and have tried to kill it.. not sucess!!!! If you want some.. you can have them!!!! Just email me! LOL
I have much too much of each color and will be happy to trade. Send me an e-mail and I can get them in the mail this weekend.
I have the blue/purple ones and was warned. So I put them in a large planter with blue/purple spiderwort and like the combo. They get the blistering afternoon sun and do quite well. I pick off the seed pods as they turn brown. Every couple days there are a few more to pick off. Would gladly trade. :)
Sue, that's sounds like a lovely idea. I think I shall move some of my spiderwort after it cools down a bit.
See, way down here Spiderwort doesn't know the word "invasive". It is very well behaved in my yard. Now Ruellia.....that's a horse of a different color.

The seed pods will pop open and seeds will fly everywhere, so even if you have it in pots, you will wind up with some all over your yard from seed if you don't get the seed pods off before they pop open.
Gumilla........ It sure looks the same to me!!
