Howdy from a cornfield in Illinois

Yates City, IL(Zone 5a)

(Well, it started out being a cornfield this Spring, but I believe cactus would have been better this year!!) So nice to finally be one of the many within this wonderful Garden...I've many gardening interests and am so open to different folks ideas. Being a Midwest farmer's daughter, growing has always been an integral area in my life and I look forward to all DG has to offer...ddbjs1979

Welcome, ddbjs1979. I am a newcomer myself as of June 20. (I didn't know this forum existed.) I look forward to reading about your gardening experiences and ideas. I live in central Florida, but I am not a very experienced gardener. I know you'll enjoy the site. The people here are knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and entertaining. Nancy

Thanks for the kind welcome, Nancy...I understand what you're saying about not knowing what all is here in DG; it's kind of like a crossword-you see the clues, just fill in the spaces...I have "visited"
some of the other forums and have already found some "favorites'
such as the lilies,climbers/vines,perennials,propagation to name a few...What are some of yours? dd

(Zone 9a)

Mine are water gardens, brugs, garden talk, container gardens, and florida gardening, at least those are the ones I visit regularly. I scan others if I have time. I recently discovered cannas, too. I also went to the chat room last Tuesday night. That's new to me and a little confusing on my screen because the responses didn't all show up at once. Not being a night person, I also dozed off and missed getting a brug.

Whereabouts in Illinois are you? I grew up in Northbrook, up near Chicago. welcome to DG!

Welcome to the Garden dd. We were transplanted from an Illinois cornfield to an Iowa cornfield about 7 years ago and just love it out here! Waving Hello from your neighboring State and welcoming you to Dave's Garden. It's the friendliest Gardening spot on the Internet!

Good Morning and nice to meet ya...
gardenwife, I'm a downstater-between Peoria and Galesburg- and I think I'm going to have to set the alarm clock for a few minutes earlier from now on, so as to peek in here each morning...dd

I've never been to Illinois or Iowa, but I have family in Illinois and friends from Iowa. My uncle recently moved down from Chicago to Homosasa, FL. My Iowa friends came from farming families, too, but they have lived down here for several years now. Last summer, they went home for an auction of their grandfather's farm equipment and supplies. That seemed sad to me.
My daughter and I drove up 75 to Michigan a few years ago to meet her now fiance's family. The corn and soy fields were stunning. Of course, that was in Ohio, but I imagine the fields appear similar to those in Illinois and Iowa.
Although it's not a cornfield, the most stunning sight was the city of Cincinnati as we were coming down out of Kentucky. After all the rock and trees, the city seemed to appear magically from out of nowhere. It was a Saturday morning and not very crowded or busy, which made the sight all the more spectacular.

I have family in Morton, but I've not been out that way since I was a little girl.

(Zone 9a)

I am not very familiar with Ohio. I gather Morton is near Cincinnati? I know where Ohio's large cities are. We were near Toledo when we visited Michigan. Then we traveled the turnpike to Philly, where I grew up. Unfortunately, we couldn't see much from the turnpike.

I meant Morton, IL, sorry. I'm in Newark, Ohio now - about 30 miles east of Columbus.
