Hello from the Lonestar State!

Hilltop Lakes, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi...My name is Mike...not a guy but a gal....my Mom was just too cute wasn't she? I am 51 and live in Hilltop Lakes, TX...which is about 50 miles from Bryan-College Station.....Home of the fighting Texas Aggies.

I loooove to garden and was just amazed when I found this site, it looks like I have finally found "my People"...yayyyyyy!

It is hot and humid here and deer are all around eating my stuff...so needless to say I am a big fan of datura and brugmansia as they will not touch them.

I am looking forward to learning about gardening all over and meeting all you fun people.

i saw you on the new subscribers list & was going to send you an email, but this is better!

welcome to DG, from another Texan/Gardener/Aggie

please forgive my one-handed typing. it's gonna be that way for a while longer.

so can you tell us about your user name. do you want to be called Mike, Pokie or Pickle?

Hilltop Lakes, TX(Zone 8a)

Call me Mike....when I was a little girl I loved pickle juice and would drink it out of all the jars...of course I loved the pickles too, so all my family has called me Pickle all my life.

I just loved Gumby's orange clay buddy...Pokey ...and collected him ...which just cracked up my husband...who started calling me Pokie...the girl spelling with an ie on the end!

So I have been Pickle to many and Pokie to one....so one time I was getting a user name and could not think one up and the site suggested it from my profile..it just cracked me up when I saw it ...so I use it online anytime I need a name.....most folks think it is a sexy double meaning kinda thing...but it is just ...well...me.

It is pretty rough going through life with such a silly name as Mike when you are not a guy...and one time years ago ....I met a guy who thought my real name was Pickle and he shared with me just how nuts he thought my name was.

I tell him, well thats OK its just a nickname...My real name is Michael....he just stares and says...well I guess I'll just call ya....Pickle, in that case...cause Michael is even worse!

Someday I will share my Mom's incredible reasoning on why it is more a girls name than a guys name...what a character she is!

Hempstead, TX(Zone 8a)

Good Morning Mike and welcome. I am about 1 hour from Bryan/College Station. While I am not an Aggie, I did attend a few parties there as a college student. I graduated from Sam Houston State University in '74.

Enjoy this site. I am recent newcomer and have found DG's a huge source of information and a great site to meet people from all over the world.
