?Pipevine swallowtail

Rockford, IL

Finally got a new visitor today. I think it is a pipevine swallowtail. He kept hanging upside down or with his back away from me so I couldn't get a shot of that (which was black/dark gray with with light blue on the lower wings). It was only interested in the butterfly bush--alit on several other flowers but quickly flitted away and eventually back to the bb. Cathy

It could also be a black version female Tiger swallowtail. The males are always yellow, but the girls can be either yellow or black. We get them around here, too - gorgeous creatures, aren't they?

What a terrific picture!

I think it's a Dark Form Tiger too. You can barely see the stripes. I've never seen one in person and only a few in pics recently.
