how to get seeds to start.

Goshen, OH(Zone 6a)

I need help. Someone sent me seeds for two differnent Brugs. I have tried twice to get these thing tosprout with no luck. HELP.

The two she sent me were Champagne Fizz X then it says Big T. McLeod, I have 4 seeds left stored between two wet paper towels sealed in a plastic bag. The other is Butterfly X UKF ( Paul Phillips) I only have one seed left. I am curious what these might turn out to be If I Can Get THem To Grow.

Also has anyone heard of these two before and what they might look like.

I have started seeds..I peel the outer layer off.. (the dark corky stuff) and then I stuck them in moist rockwool. I am not sure i really like rockwool but that is what I had. I got about 50% germination. I have heard of placeing the peeled seeds in damp paper towls to germinate them but not to store..I would be afraid they would mold

whoops... forgot one other key ingredient I didn't stress in the other thread. Regardless of the plant, you've got to have viable seeds to begin with. One batch I got back in Feb - not a single one sprouted. The provider later told me she didn't know if they were any good to begin with but nothing ventured nothing gained.

Last year was a really bad one for empty seeds here in the south. Lots of pods full of "seed" that had nothing in them when peeled. Speculation is that excessive heat/wet/dry + 4 hurricanes and barometric fluctuation from that may have been the cause. Dunno. But I had a record year for both pods set, and empty hulls. That in itself is a really good reason to peel seeds prior to planting.

I peel the seeds from their corky cover, give them a 10% bleach bath and press them just on top of the soil, pour vermiculite over the top, water them in (not too much, a mist is good) and cover either with a lid or some press n seal, put under some grow lights and wait until you see seedlings emerge tall as the container....then uncover them and watch them grow under the lights. :-)

P.S. You can also get the rockwool which is a great way to go too and not as dirty, and very successful! Good luck!

Thanks all, will try again, I am just anxious to see what they might turn out to be.

Soak the Rockwool first then squeeze out the water and place seeds in the center, I cover mile with clear plastic so I can see the progress, have had great luck this way.
