I got some crinum bulbs on ebay, two of which were basically cut in half and oozing a bunch of goo. I planted them, but they smell horrible. When I'm around the pot they're planted in, I can smell a terrible rotten smell. Are they a lost cause or is there some hope for them?
Thanks!
Crinum bulbs
I would take them out of the pot and clean out the "goo" which is most likely rot. If you can save any of the root area and it is "goo" free you may be able to save the bulbs. But if you leave them they will rot completely.
I rinsed the goo off before I planted them, but when they smelled so bad I pulled them up and there was as much there as before I rinsed them. (I hate to sound so dumb when I ask a question like this.) Here's a picture of them to give you a better idea of the shape they're in. I rinsed them gently just to get the surface dirt off, but didn't try to get the goo or stuck-on dirt off.
Thanks Janet!
I hope you did not pay too much for them...they seem to be missing the IMPORTANT part, namely the roots or the place where they are to grow out of.
I didn't pay much at all for them, and they did have roots when they arrived, but they fell off, in a big clump of goo. =o( I thought maybe I could *hope* them back to life... LOL I'm a newbie with bulbs, so I wasn't sure if they were a complete waste of time or not. Oh well, I'll chalk it up to live-and-learn.
Of the three bulbs I got, one is doing splendidly, (obviously the one NOT pictured) so maybe it will multiply quickly for me.
Thanks so much!
