Well. I got back yesterday evening and had a GREAT Brain Drain time (even with two 12 yo girls). The first image is a flower that I have never seen there before
Hunt, TX Trip
Great series. I wish I could do that.
trois
Trois, all it takes is a friend to lone you his 13 foot collapsable kyack. SOO nice !!!
I used to canoe a lot, but I am older and my sense of balance is not good anymore. I still have the canoe, but the young folks use it now.
I miss it though. I especially miss canoeing through the large Lotus beds in the Wichita Mountains. The leaves and flowers were above your head, and the wildlife in there is awsome. And close.
Thanks for the memory.

That's why I enjoy a canoe soo much, Trois. They are so easily manuverable and quiet that you can sneek up on anything. While I was there I found a Nutria nest with Mom and two youngsters, helped an armodillo cross the river, spotted a family of 4 wild pigs and found the crossing that a heard of 8 deer with their 3 young'uns used every morning @ 7:00. Also many birds, bats and buzzards not to mention a16 to 18 inch Coy (?) that must have gotten loose in one of the floods.
Yep. Most people don't know all that is out there when you're in a canoe. Most critters just look at you as if to say "who are you?" and stay put.

Oh those pictures just tug at my heart. You really captured the heart of the Guadalupe River in that area. I have not been down to the Hunt area in quite a few years. I used to go down there to a friend's place every summer, but they sold it. It's such a beautiful area and I really need to get back.
Kipper, have you been to the headwaters across from the Kerrville Wildlife Management area on FM 1340? It's too shallow to canoe in area's directly down river from there, but it is a sight you should not miss if you enjoy seeing the springs. Plus if you have girls who like to swim, the "tubs" just up river from Mo-Ranch are not to be missed either.
Thanks for sharing.
sweezel, it's funny that you suggest that because since we've been going there every year for the past 8 years I rarely get out of Hunt. This year when we got back I was looking at the propoganda that my wife had picked up on Kerrville and was shocked that i had never ventured into the area. Welllllllll, now I know where I'll have to take at lest one day off from the river. EXCEPT for visiting Natives of Texas Nursery off Hwy 16, 8 miles south of Kerrville.
Sorry, that should have been "Kerr" Wildlife Management area as in Kerr County not "Kerrville". My mistake.
It's in Hunt, almost in Mountain Home on the North Fork of the Guadalupe. If you turn onto 1340 at the Hunt Store, it's about 15 miles down on the left. Across the road from the check station at the Kerr Wildlife Management area, there is a little sign set back from the road, if I remember right, so you have to keep you eyes open. There is a gravel road and you can park and walk down to the water to see all the springs.
