I'm just learning my camera and how to post pics. If these are lousy, please be patient and forgiving.
I received plants from Mel yesterday...all meticulously packaged and in great condition. I'll post pics of the archboldiana, thomsonii and heuschkeliana. I also received very, very generous cuttings of lacunosa and nummulariodes. I had already cut them both into 5-6 cuttings each before thinking to try and take pics. I know who to contact when I'm ready for more hoyas!! Here is the archboldiana.
In my frustration trying to learn the camera (#%!!#@) I forgot to show a ruler, but the longest leaf is 8" and the other is very close to it!

Look at my new babies!
Oh H. thomsonii, isn't she a little darling. I purchased one from Carol years ago. It is one of my favorite Hoya's. I love the leaves. Seems to be a slow grower for me. Enjoy!
Nice pics Sharon and I love the pic of the heuschkeliana...its so cute...you have a good start of cuttings there.....way to go....
Sandy
Your pictures look pretty good to me Sharon. Lucky you, the hoyas look great. Archboldiana sure has long leaves. I'd love to have one of those some day too. That's the one that sparked my interest in hoyas when Milan showed us a picture on the Canadian Forum. The huge flowers were just incredible. The heuschkeliana has lovely little leaves. I'll have to look up both of those so I can see what their flowers are like. I'm afraid I don't many kinds of hoyas yet.
Sandy
Your off to a great start! Mel, you are very generous!
Heather
Thanks everyone! I love them all...can't really pick a favorite as they all are pretty and interesting. I was totally impressed with the archiboldiana...couldn't believe the size and thickness of the leaves...can't wait for the showy flowers. I love the darker green, very velvety leaves on the thomsonii and I think the heuschkeliana is just a really sweet looking plant. I understand they all have wonderfully fragrant flowers.
Heather, Mel has really been a great enabler...she has sold me several plants/cuttings at very reasonable prices as well as gifted me with some. Up until then, I pretty much just had the more common ones that you can find (sometimes) at the big box stores. So now I'm very appreciative to be able to get some of the less common ones. Another advantage is that Mel doesn't sell her plants with a name attached unless she is as certain as possible that it is accurate. Can't say that for most retailers/catolog services (with the exception of Carol, of course!!!) I don't want to end up like so many others who order plants, grow them and when they finally bloom they find out it's a duplicate or clone of something they already have.
If anyone whould like to share their experience with any of these plants, it would certainly be very much appreciated. (light, warmth, watering, fertilizer, etc.) Do they bloom early? Frequently?
Wow..you can just tell by the photo that the archboldiana has some good sized leaves!
I agree...the photos look great! Better than mine...I'm *still* getting used to and still *frustrated* with my camera and related skills!
I love heuschkeliana, too...Heather recently sent me a nice sized cutting of that one, which is new for me, too!
Mel's just a *gem*, dontcha think?!
Nan, yes Mel certainly is a *gem*! She was great about answering my numerous questions while trying to decide which ones I wanted as well.
As for the pics, actually I really like my camera. It's a Kodak EasyShare CX7430 and pretty intuitive/user friendly. It's the software that I'm having the problems. I need to just sit down for a day or two and really play with it a lot...and (gulp!) read the directions. Also, the user manual tells all you need to operate the camera, but to do anything with the pics on your computer they refer you to the 'help' menu of the software....which so far I don't think is as helpful as it could be. I don't have the patience for new technology that I used to have.
Wow....those are awesome! Lucky you!!! Now which Mel are you talking about?
:) Dnna
Sharon I'm sure Mel forgot to tell you to send your hoyas to Arizona for the summer:-).
Agape,
Awanda in Arizona:-)
Nope! But nice try Awanda....:-D Actually, Mel said that hoyas absolutely love TN in the summer! I'm sure with your vast collection, you couldn't possibly want more could you????
Donna, I'm talking about our own 'meltn' of this forum.
Oh that's what I thought. Lucky you!!!! Sigh.......
:) Donna
Archboldiana rocks! Do you know what color the flowers will be? I can never make up my mind whether I like the red or cream-colored ones best.
Sharon, you are so sweet! I am so glad you are happy with your plants and that the tender new vines made it through the heat and USPO. Your pictures look great! You are doing much better than I did when I first got my camera.
Yea, Awanda NEEDS more Hoyas. Poor lady does not have enough!! By the way, she also sells a few and has awesome plants.
The post above shows the color of Sharons new archie bloom. I would call it pink, but, it is also kind of cream color.
Again, thanks Sharon, Heather and Nan for your kind comments! I think the world of you ladies as well!
Mel, due to your excellent packaging they looked fantastic...no wilting whatsoever, no broken or crimped vines or leaves. Thanks for posting the pic of the flowers from the mother plant. I had seen that on an old post and that's what made me decide I 'needed' one!
Great to know that Awanda sells hoyas too! I checked her webpage and the outstanding comments on Garden Watchdog. Looks like another wonderful source for my ongoing hoya addiction!
