Animal Control picked up Freckles as a stray, hung onto him for a couple of weeks and Purebreed Rescue rescued him from animal control. The vet put his age at around 1 1/2. He is adorable. Definitely a lover not a fighter. It is obvious that somewhere along the line he had some good training. He knows sit, stay, wait, and come. Maybe more but they are the ones that have been tried and work right now. He tested strong positive for heartworms and he has hookworms. He had his first heartworm shot 10 days ago and his first dose of hookworm meds this morning. He needs to have peace and quiet during his heartworm meds period. The rescue was just a little too busy an environment to keep him quiet in. Other than his coughing, one would not know there is anything wrong with him. I know that could change literally in a heartbeat but he is such a loveable little guy it is going to be tough not to get attached to him. I've read tons of stuff from the Heartworm Institute and lots of other web sites so I'm pretty up on what to look out for while keeping him quiet, but with all the great pet lovers on this site I thought I'd just see if anyone had some words of wisdom for me while fostering this poor little guy. I've pretty much decided already that if he pulls through OK, I'll probably keep him. Thanks in advance from Freckles for any helpful words you may have for his poor foster parent.
