Does anyone have any tips on making a hibiscus into tree form? Which parts need to be sheared off and does it need to be done at a certain stage?? Thank you.
Pruning hibiscus into a tree...
I start out with a very straight stem cutting from the color I want to use.plant the rooted cutting in the center of a 6 inch pot and place a bamboo stake next to the stem.put a few twist ties along the stem , just above a leaf node.keep ALL side shoots clipped off.Let the tree grow to the desired height(I pinch out the tip at 6 feet tall)pinch out the tip and let the side shoots develop.keeping all the lower side shoots( near the base of the plant) clipped off.Only allow the shoots to grow in the area of the top third of the plant.pinch the shoots tips ocassionally to promote branching. Takes a good year to get a real nice full tree.Check the twist ties too..make sure as the trunk grows it doesn't(twist tie) get too tight and girdle the trunk.. Does that make sense?? LOL
