Potassium

Brookeville, MD(Zone 7a)

What's a good way to provide potassium for my nanas? They're all babies so I can't really mulch with their own leaves. I'm eating bananas like crazy so I can use the peels but it's not enough. I don't think they have just potassium pills at the health food store either.

How about greensand, that is what I use.

Wood fire ashes. If you use a chemical make sure it is readily available to the plant. We use 10-5-40 on ours.

I won't have ashed until winter, by that time the nanas will be stored for winter. I will save some this year.

What is greensand?

As far as I know greensand is an all natural product which is primarily potash. It supplies potassium and other trace elements and it is also supposed to lighten heavy soils but I cannot say I have ever noticed that. I know it is mined in NJ and perhaps other places. The brand I use is Espoma. You might want to Google "greensand" and get more specific information.
