CLOSED: Have: Streamlets for pond/water garden

Ridgeville, IN(Zone 5a)

I have 5 streamlets for trade. These are the preform streamlet basins. You can use 1 or many to make a streamlike or waterfall effect for your pond or water garden. See photo below. This was my first pond in early early progress. 3 streamlets are pictured. I don't recall what I paid for them, but I got them from Lowes in 2002, and they were only used for about 1 1/2 seasons. I'm thinking 1-2 items from my list (depending on the plant) for each streamlet basin would be a fair trade?

Things I'm looking for:

Hardy Hibiscus (I have plain white, plain pink, and Lord Baltimore)
Brugmansia (well rooted)
Asiastic/Oriental Lilies
Passion Flower (well rooted)
Magic/Surprise/Resurrection Lilies
Baby's Tears (houseplant)
Iris (not plain yellow or purple)
Cannas (not plain green foliage with red blooms)
Staghorn Fern (baby plant)
Arum/Amorphallus (hardy for zone 5)
Peony (I have light pink and dark pink)

I'll aslo trade for floating pond planters.

I'm not a great judge on value of plants.....if you have something that is of greater value, and would be more appropriately traded for 2 or 3 streamlets, please just tell me. I want this to be a fair trade for all involved. :O)

This is also posted on the water garden forum, with no takers as of yet. Jenny

Jenny,
I have cannas, white peony, and light lavender irises to trade and would like as many of the streamlets as I can scrounge plants for! The cannas I have are from Horn's and are viewable at
http://www.cannas.net
and I have (of the Standard):
Rosemond Cole
Pink Beauty
Black Knight
Crimson Beauty
and I also have (of the Collector's)
Lenape (which ended up a bit more yellow than their pic)
Maudie Malcolm
Tropical Sunrise
Aida
Cleopatra

Here's a pic of the bed with the pink ones in it.....

Hi there! You can have all 5 of the streamlets. ;o) I don't know how valuable those cannas are. How many do you think are fair for 5 streamlets? Jenny

I hate to compete with ya, Gail, but I sure would like a stream. You got the waterfall, and you know I've been wanting a stream forever. So here goes:

Jenny, I have:

Passiflora incarnata (as many as you want--rooted, some are currently blooming)

A big white rooted brugs

White Moonflower datura (huge fragrant blooms)

Cannas:
Orange Beauty
Richard Wallace (the best yellow bloom you can find)
Striped Beauty (aka Christ's Light, Bangkok, Minerva)
Pretoria (Bengal Tiger)
Red Stripe (red blooms, red and green striped leaves, HUGE)
Red Futurity (dwarf red with burgundy leaves)
China Lass (pink blooms, green leaves)
Red Wine (watermelon pink blooms, burgundy leaves)

Daylilies:
Sammy Russell (Red with Yellow center)
Blackeyed Stella (Gold with red eye, reblooms)

illustris elephant ear (black and green leaves)
running green elephant ears (sends out runners that start more plants)
giant green elephant ears (big bulb)

Surprise lilies, aka Naked Ladies

Dragon's blood sedum (burgundy and green leaves, great groundcover)

Brilliant sedum - tall pink blooming stonecrop

Dwarf Ribbon Grass - green and cream striped leaves (great around a pond)

A beautiful dark blue ruffly iris

I have lots of other stuff if none of this suits you. I'd like all five of the streamlets if you find some things worthy.

Darn, guess I'm not much competition. Well, have fun with them, Gail. I'll just use a pond liner to make my stream I guess.

Bay, AR(Zone 7a)

Nancy,
What do you mean, not much competition? You've got WAY more variety than I do to offer! I was going to share them with you, but you do really need all 5 to make your stream like you want it.

Jenny, please let Nancy have the streamlets.
Nancy, I'll pitch in if she wants some of the cannas I have listed that you don't. I owe ya!! BIG TIME!!

Let's just work out something and you can have them all.

Gail, that's very kind of you. I'm sorry that you missed the spitter too. I posted both of these at the water garden forum first thinking someone would just jump on them. But no takers. So I posted it here. Gosh I wish I had enough streamlets for both of you.

Nancy, do you want them then? I'm interested in your passiflora, and surprise lilies, and some cannas for sure. How many plants do you think would be fair for all 5 streamlets? Jenny

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Hey Gail, Thank you! That's very nice of ya! OOOOH, I can't wait to have a little stream! Too cool!!!

Jenny, I could send ya a little of everything you'd like, a couple of passifloras, abuot 5 surprise lilies (they're in bloom now so I can find them), and a couple of each canna. If you'd like other stuff, let me know. The Brugs really needs a home. It would be a good rooted piece. The whole plant is too big to ship, so I'd just have to cut it back drastically for shipping, but it will bush back out in no time. It's blooming size. It's kinda what I'd call a "dirty white". Cream colored but it had darker splotches on it. I'm attaching a picture.

And of course if you want other stuff, just let me know.

That's the first time I've seen the brugs bloom. So I don't know if the dark splotches on the edges of the petals are normal or just due to my dry conditions this year. I do know that it needs more love than I give it. I'm very neglectful.

NancyAnn, sounds like a fantastic trade to me. If you want to send what you listed (passiflora, surprise lilies and cannas), and the brug...that would be great!

I'm very excited about the cannas. We were hit with an unexpected freeze this spring, and I lost almost all of mine......I'm left with plain green leaves with red blooms. So far I've traded for a few others....but your list is impressive! :O)))

I'm sure you are going to love your new stream! I remember when I had it, the sound was just lovely. But since then, I've made a much bigger pond with a small waterfall. I told my husband if I don't get rid of these streamlets.....I'll start to get ideas.....LOL....and create more work for myself. LOL

I'll get these cleaned up....and find a box. I can ship Monday......how about you? My addy is in the exchange...is yours?

Jenny

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Hey Jenny, I've been a canna collector for years. I just love them. A quick freeze doesn't kill them. So just cut the foliage back and you may get new foliage in no time.

I'm glad you'll take the poor lonely little brugs. I've been trying to thin out my tropicals. I really don't like digging them up and hauling them back to the atrium for the winter. And this is the first time I've seen any of them bloom. So I'm just not impressed. Of course, a lot of their lack of performance is due to my neglect, I know.

I love my elephant ears and am always collecting new ones. Here, many of them are perennial.

I will either mail Sat or Mon. And my addy is in the address exchange. You can mail the streamlets the cheapest way you can. Fed X may be cheaper than the post office. So don't worry about shipping them priority mail. It will be a little while before I can put them to use, so there's no rush on sending them.

Thanks Jenny!! And thanks Gail for letting me have them. No wonder you're my bestest friend! You're so generous! Wanna go to lunch? My treat!

Hey, that's great! I'm glad y'all got that worked out. Too bad I didn't get the spitter, but maybe next time! The stream is going to look great at your place Nancy, and Jenny, I know exactly what you mean about creating more work for yourself. I'm good at that!

And as for lunch, Nancy.... after helping me scrape and paint that trimwork on the house and install the new water garden, lunch is on me.... x 10!!

Gail

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Well, allrighty then, Gail, I'll see you in a few minutes. We'll eat and then get right on the painting. By the end of the day, maybe we'll have it all painted twice and can start on the pond tomorrow. I'm almost as excited as you are about your waterfall and pond. Oh my, it's going to be beautiful!

Hi NancyAnn. ;o) When I checked those cannas, the tubers were mush. They weren't anything fantastic....just assorted no name colors. I'm just thrilled to replace them though. :O) I have a sunroom I pack as full as possible in the winter. I keep my regular houseplants in there all year, but other stuff I move out for the summer, and back in for the winter....like hibiscus, and bougainvillia.....etc. I don't know what I would do without that room. LOL I've got a couple water plants that aren't hardy for me that I bring in there too.

I'll check out the price difference between fed ex and the PO. Thanks for suggesting that. :) I'll let you know for sure when I ship, and hopefully have a tracking # to give you.

Hope you two had fun at lunch. :o) Jenny

Northeast, AR(Zone 7a)

Lunch was quick. We spent the afternoon, in 98 degrees, in sun, painting the side of Gail's house that we scraped yesterday. It's now all done and Gail's mom is bringing us dinner! I could get used to this! LOL

This weekend we hope to have Gail's new pond and waterfall installed and then I can share some of my water plants with her. We are just so thrilled with our progress in the last two days. It's all done! The house is painted! Yippppeeeee!!! Moving right along...

Thanks so much for the streamlets. Gail said she had asked for them because she knew I would have a use for them if she couldn't figure out what to do with them. What a gal! My very bestest friend!

I hope to get your package off in the mail tomorrow. I think you will like these varieties. Some are hard to find or expensive if you do. Enjoy! And thanks for trading with me.

We still had fun at lunch, even though it was a little rushed. We wanted to get started, though, while part of it was still in the shade. We were unsuccessful... lol... not until about 4:00 did we get any shade, and we didn't lack much being finished by then! But you're right, the water garden is gonna look cool!!

When you get the streamlets, I'll help you put them in!
Gail
