Another Stinky Plant Bloom!

Oviedo, FL(Zone 9b)

Hi, friends!
Just got word today that the Titan Arum {Amorphophallus titanum} at the Smith College Botanical Garden in Northampton, MA is supposed to bloom somewhere on or about August 13-14. I am checking out the website and will add more details as I get them. This is a seedling from one of the ones at University of Connecticut. I guess this makes us a real subculture! I am dusting off my stinky plant t-shirt in preparation to go out and see this one if they will let us in!

I had the dates wrong. I talked to someone out at the Smith College Botanical Garden this morning and she said that the Titan Arum had bloomed Tuesday night, Aug. 9th and Wednesday morning August 10th. She seemed amused at all the attention this one plant attracted and said she didn't understand it. I feel sorry for her. It is highly amazing to see a plant so foreign to us grow and bloom here. How could you not be interested?

Especially if they work there....they should be interested in plants.
