Has anyone with a small above ground pond tried using a pond heater to keep their fish safe over the winter? I was wondering if I could leave them out if I purchased a heater. I should tell you my "pond" is basically a water trough with a circulation pump, one pond lily, and couple of goldfish. I love having it though. I don't have room for anything larger. Well at least not unless I give up some other part of my garden.
Pond Heaters
Hi grikdog. :o) Have you seen the stock tank deicers/heaters at farm supply stores? I know some people use those. I think so long as you can keep the water from freezing......your fish will be fine. My first pond was only 100 gal, and was a preform only partially burried.......so long as I kept a hole in the ice, and kept it from freezing solid, my fish were fine. Just make sure whatever kind of heater you go with, that the fish can't get close to the actual heating element part of it. Jenny
Good idea. I guess livestock would need open water to get a drink. Fits right in with my trough theme! :) I'll check it out.
Yes they sure do. :o) Good luck! Jenny
