Hard to see closely but it looks like black around the outside of an indented dried sore. Right? I have never seen one with such deep sores. I believe it is SB but even if it isn't, get rid of it fast. And the soil and the pot. Wash your hands well before you touch another brug. And I would even change my clothes. If you need to cut it up, boil your clippers for at least 5 minutes after.

It goes for the yellow multihybrids first so Dr. Seuss is in keeping with that.

I am so sorry! But best to toss before it spreads.

bronson, IA(Zone 4a)

kell--thanks for your help--i cant believe i didnt notice it before now--all the branches that are coming out of the main trunk look like they are going to rot off--what a shame as it has some blooms on it and boy do they smell good--i moved it to the other end of my yard and will toss it --thanks for your help cheryl

Tulsa, OK(Zone 7a)

so sorry you lost it..

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

bronson, IA(Zone 4a)

Indiantown, FL

Yes I would say it is SB.

bronson, IA(Zone 4a)

Might that be chemical damage??

bronson, IA(Zone 4a)

SherryLike--i dont know if it is--i did burn some of my brugs by fertilizering when they were to dried out and the damage was on the tops of the new growth--never seen nothing like this--i moved it away from my other brugs and will destroy it

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

It is SB. There is no doubt about it.
The spots never appear on the wooden trunk but on the green stems and branches.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

Monika,

Thank you so much for looking after us.

Judy

bronson, IA(Zone 4a)

Monika--thanks for your help--now i know what to look for--i am going out now to destroy it--putting it in big plastic bags and in the dumpster for it--thanks again everyone--cheryl

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Oh, cottosnag, I badly burned my seedlings, with chemicals, not once, but twice because they were not watered well enough before they were treated, the first time, which caused their tops to blow out, and the second time they had granules, for insects, thrown on their leaves and it defoliated them, the second burn caused 'spinach' leaves, then, they were wind and limb damaged in several storms - they looked like they had been nuked; however, they had nothing to compare with the damage your brug has. But I do believe that chemicals cause some weird stuff. I'm finding if they are well watered BEFORE and AFTER the chemical, that they do fine. What chems did you use??

bronson, IA(Zone 4a)

i use peters 20/20 one day then i was doubling it on the 5th day--and i learned not to fertilze when they are dried out--so then i stopped fertilizing for awhile cause it was so hot and it took some of my small brugs along time to recover--so it was another learning lessons on brugs--and now i have grasshoppers chomping on them--whats next? i destroyed dr. suess--he smelled so good as i chopped him up--poor thing--all bagged up and ready for the dumpster--

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Ahhhhh, so sad. But you can get him again!!! Though I would wait awhile to bring in any more mutihybrid yellows. I hate to kill my plants too. That is why I let my husband do it, he loves it!! He cleared my whole brug garden last weekend. All gone except for 4. I have been trying to do it for 3 years and never could bring myself to. They were my first seedlings I ever grew. None of much value except for sentimental feelings.

You should now watch your others for a year at least to make sure it didn't spread. I bet it didn't!

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

well cotto-- LMK and I'll send you replacement(s).

bronson, IA(Zone 4a)

8ftbed--ol what does LMK mean? remember i dont post much i just read them everyday--thanks

kell--i did go check all of my 40 brugs--some have damage from being blown over and my chemical damage--but they all look good besides that and of course i cant forget the grasshopers holes on them--hope it doesnt spread--i need to get rid of some of mine too--its to hard to over winter them here in cold old Iowa!!!

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

LMK = let me know

:-)

bronson, IA(Zone 4a)

thanks for the help--dont know if i want another dr. suess again--to afraid it will get it again

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

My Dr. S wasn't nearly as difficult as yours and I do not ever plan to have another. She did not thrive here, and appeared unhappy from the get go. Now, Chas Grimalid, is SUPER! What a difference in the two brugs, both considered a nice brug for newbies. Well, I flunked with DS, but Chas G is very happy here, roots so easily and her foliage is lovely, even without blooms...

Portland, OR(Zone 8b)

I can vouch for Charles Grimaldi. Blooms more, grows faster, and has more fragrance then any of my other brugs. I can send you a cutting if you'd like.

Sorry to hear about your DS.
I also have had some problems with DS this year. Leaves turning yellow early and it doesn't like the heat.
CG has always been a performer and does well with blooming. It does have a little problem with the afternoon sun and wilts but quickly recovers. CG is a winner on my list.

bronson, IA(Zone 4a)

thanks everyone for the info on Chas G--i dont have that one and i havent even heard or know much about it--i assume it blooms yellow--sounds like a great brug--some just never do well--
emirlynasmus --yes i think i would like to try a cutting of Chas G--i will pay you for postage and shipping --let me know---thanks everyone for being so helpful and nice--plant people are the best !!!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I love CG too and I haven't even seen her bloom yet - I put CG in the ground this week, I just love the foliage, so plushy, green and the serrated leaves are oh so nice. I'm amazed that it's almost doubled in size in this heat, WOW!! This is the time of year, here, that if you don't do what you are supposed to do, water, water, water, the blooms from your upcoming flushes, will dry up and wither on the limbs, and it's oh so difficult to do in heat, thank goodness the humidity is low, very nice and very unusual...Kin I loved your CG photos and it is because of yours that I wanted one, we are in the same zone, ya know!!
