Hairstreak

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Common but I don't know which one it is. These are so tiny. You'd never know they were so pretty if you didn't have on your best glasses! :)
They love the weed wildflowers.

That's a magnifecent looking butterfly!

I think your hairstreak is probably the Grey or Common Hairstreak Strymon melinus http://www.cbif.gc.ca/spp_pages/butterflies/captions/GreyHairstreakcap_e.php
but it is hard to be sure. Most hairstreak pictures show them with closed wings. Yours is one of the best open wing shots of this species that I have seen.

Thank you very much for the info kennedyh! I chased her around the yard until she was so exhausted she gave up! lol!

Stunning photo. I love the little hairstreaks - such beauty in such tiny packages! It is amazing that you got a photo, let alone such a good one... those little ones are quick!

I don't think I've ever caught them open-winged. I love how their wings rub together as they are drinking.

vee8ch, wonderful photo of the open winged Hairstreak. I have seen them here in my yard but never able to get a good photo. DonnaS
