Acidanthera murielae. Another name...fragrant Abyssinian gladiolus. My first year with these little pretties. They are late Summer-Autumn bloomers and are all starting to emerge now. I think I like them. :)
Peacock Orchid
While I was at it, thought I'd show you this pretty Red Salvia.
Linda if you are around and are reading, in the white ring beside the Salvia is my "one and only" Rose of Sharon that I grew from the seeds you gave me. I thought she was a goner when I transplanted her outside this spring, but she rallied and came back. Getting bigger ever day.
I love your fragrant Abyssinian gladiolus Donna. They're very exotic looking.
Your acidanthera is lovely...they have a 50-50 chance of ever opening here...usually it is mid-late October unless you really start them early.
I really like your, "Abyssinian Gladiolus". I like the white flower behind it too. I think that both of them would do good as a cut flower. Yes? No?
Red Salvia is almost out of the question around here. I tried for 2 years to find it and couldn't. They have other colours, but not red. Go figure. If I can't have Red, I don't want any. lol
Thanks Darrell. The white flower behind the Abyssinian Glads is a Cactus Dahlia. Yes they do make great cut flowers, but i think we discussed today about the drawbacks of dahlias. As far as the Abyssinian Glads, "Peacock Orchid", this is my first season growing them, so I haven't tried them in a flower arrangemnt yet. When I do, I'll let you know.
Too bad you can't find the Red Salvia. I like them too. Attracts Hummingbirds and Butterflies. I have a purple one too that is really pretty too. Hope you find them for next season. :)
I found the Salvia last year but never ordered it, hoping that this year someone would have it at one of the local nurseries. But, "nope", nobody had it again this year. I'm ordering it for next year. I'm not waiting around anymore for the local nursery's to "maybe" get it. ;)
I'd still like to get the Dahlia for myself. I can handle digging up the tubers in the fall when it's only a few plants and they are for myself and not for re-sale. :)
Wow! Now that's pretty, lourspolaire. I'm putting that on my list to grow.
Those are the same ones I have, Sylvain, only a much nicer photo. Acidanthera murielae. This is my first summer for them and I am really impressed. I have about 9 plants of them and they are blooming nicely. I did find out however, they aren't really good as cut flowers. :( Too bad, 'cause they are so pretty.
Wow, those are lovely.
After I rip my front porch off next spring, I will be starting my front garden "lawn" (grass is *such* a waste of space for me!) and I'd love to be able to find these to put in.
I'm still shaky in my grasp of how to plant things so that there will always be something growing at each time of the year, but I'm trying to get A PLAN.
Trouble is, every time I think I have one, "you guys" show me something else I haven't seen before and like, so the plan has to be modified.
I guess that's why gardeners are busy every year, eh? lol!

LOL, you 've got that right, Marilyn. But that's what's nice about a group like this. In the past year, I have obtained so many great ideas from the different forums.
I got my Abyssian Glads from "The Blooming Auction", believe it or not. A very nice lady from the states had some lovely bulbs, so I got those, my Calla lilies, and my Pineapple Lily all from her.

You might find something you like there sometime.
Have a great Sunday!
