May's Trip to the Emergency Vet

Our poor Persian kitty May got in a cat fight today! We feel so bad for her, because she is so helpless and, well, stupid-- of all of our cats to get in a fight she would fare the worst. She came in limping this evening about a half hour after I thought I heard some cats going at it. We figured she'd have a bite mark or two and we'd get antibiotics. The emergency vet found a series of wounds on her right shoulder, and two of her back toenails were ripped out. They didn't think it was a cat fight, but after two x-rays and after she was cleaned up a bit, they decided they were puncture wounds from a large cat (we do have a HUGE cat in our neighborhood), and the cat hung on enough to rip her muscles right off her bone! Poor thing! Now she'll be on pain meds and antibiotics for some time as she's in for a painful recovery. :( She's still trying to hobble around, but loses her balance since she can't put weight on her paw, and then she keeps falling over on her wound. I hope she'll get some good rest and feel better soon!
