I was just admiring the leaves on ths BSI-1 X australis, which I received from Carol about a month ago as an unrooted cutting. The leaves had been a bit dehydrated looking, but today they seemed much plumper, so I thought "good! Roots!" then I noticed also "Buds!" there is a small cluster of buds forming and actually maybe close to opening. I must not have been looking closely last week. Also in bud is an imperialis I received from Carol three weeks ago. It went on a long flight in a dark box, then was exposed to my much different coditions, then potted up, then place in a sunny window. And then, "Buds!". So, how do you get hoyas to bud when they are reluctant? Apparently, just have Carol send them to you from Hawaii. Carol, can I send you some Hoyas and have you send them back? Maybe they'll flower then too! (just kidding).

buds!
With the imperialis you're in for a loooong wait! I took photos of mine the first time it flowered and here you can see the progress: http://www.myhoyas.com/Hoya%20imperialis%20buds.htm (if you move the mouse over the photos you'll see some dates.)
It IS worth the waiting!

Great pictures Christina, at least the flowers were open quite a while. The flowers are beautiful. I keep hoping mine will start blooming.
I am looking forward to your pictures of BS-1 and your imperialis when they bloom. According to Christina I guess it will be a while yet, but yes it will be worth the wait. Deb
Mark....is that BSI - 1 or the cross with Australis?
Why aren't mine blooming...?
If I send you some will you send them back?
LOL
Carol
Oops, yes it is SBI-1 X australis, I went back and edited. How about when it gets a little bigger I take some cuttings and send them back? Maybe it works both ways. I'm not sure the SBI-1 X australis buds will make it, they have that certain look...
Keep the water UP... keeping my fingers crossed for you!!!!
My obvious question, what soil/mix do you plant them in? Are they outside? Did they eventually open up?
