Totally OT - the power of new growth

I posted this photo also on the Brugmansia forum. This plastic table held 6 hoya plants, under the shade of a stand of bamboo. UP comes a new shoot of bamboo, hoya pots on the ground and table in the air! The shoot grows about 1ft per day.

After they are bigger, I train them to bend over and now the bamboo stand has about 10 culms bending over with pots of hoyas hanging from them...like spokes on a wheel!!

Must have felt like an earthquake to those poor Hoyas on the table. The bamboo sure grows thick. I guess I thought bamboo was skinny and then got thick with age. Is this a new shoot that grew up from the ground? Growing a foot a day is amazing. Have you found a safer location for the Hoyas? You don't want them to have a "fear complex" Deb

YES...Bamboo IS amazing! Yesterday we went out to a Bamboo Nursery (couldn't take photos because it was raining too hard) where rare timber and decorative bamboo are grown beautifully. There was one with new culms that were one foot in diameter...a 4 year old stand. Bob (DH) and I both love the timbers...and folks ARE starting to use it in construction of houses.

That's too funny. I purchased some clumping bamboo earlier in the spring. It doesn't seem to be taking off the way I thought it would.
I just love the black running bamboo. The key word to keep it off my purchase list is the word running.....neither of us have time to dig trenches and line them to keep it from running. Lovely stuff though.
Had a panic tonight as I realized I hadn't see H. cv. monette for a while. As many hoya as I have I can still tell when one is missing. Found her up under the pecan tree happy as can be.

Wow, that bamboo is really cool. I've never seen it that big so the bamboo that's one foot in diameter must be amazing. I've always been attracted to bamboo but don't have room to grow it.
