Tropical Hibiscus & Spider Mites....help needed please!

Yukon, OK(Zone 7b)

I posted this last night on the Hibiscus forum http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/535545/ but haven't received feedback from anyone. Does anyone here know if I can spray Neem Oil on my Tropical Hibiscus?

Hi Brinda! I am almost sure you can. It seems to me that as I walked thru my courtyard the other day spraying Neem all over I did a couple of my fancy Hibiscus. No harm came to them. I can spray in the heat of the day here in full sun but I have heard some people complain the oil in the Neem if sprayed in the sun and heat, will burn the plant. So just to be safe, I would do it early or late if it is hot where you live. .

If they all die, I told you nothing, Brinda!

Thanks for responding Kell! I've had a terrible outbreak of spider mites on my brugs lately and they are driving me nuts. And now I'm noticing that some hibiscus leaves are curling, so I'm assuming that they have mites also. I'll give it a try this evening. Thanks again!!!

Good luck Brinda, they are so bad. I hate them!

Well Kell, I've just come in from cutting all my infested leaves off the brugs. I'm going to give everything a good shot of Neem tonight. Thanks for the good luck wishes....I sure need them. LOL

hibiscus are very sensative to several common pesticides, malithion will kill them! spider mites are most easily controlled by spraying water on the undersides of the leaves right before dark. yes, i know, watering at night can bring other problems, but if you only do this for a couple of days, the spider mites will be gone. use the mist part on your nozzle and make sure you really drench them. debi
