Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

I've finally had the heart to start work on my website again.. I've deleted all of the old pictures from the old place and am starting anew with my new homestead.. Anyway... if you want to go directly to the gingers go to this page...

You have done a really nice job on the website!! Of course I remember one you had years ago and it was beautiful too. I am sort of glad I don't have the zone for the gingers because I would have another addiction! LOL

Thanks Badseed... and I agree, gingers are VERY addictive..

So pretty Ms Munché!! And guess what.... I dropped by a nursery yesterday thanks to another member here Sue! And they had a few gingers. I bought the Hedychium Elizabeth! I see it on your page. I am so excited. It is so pretty! They also had Hedychium Luna Moth, Anne Bishop, Hedychium coronarium white buttefly and Hedychium flavum Yellow Ginger Lily. Know any of them?

Is the Hedychium coronarium on your pictures the same as White Butterfly, do you think??

Are these invasive? Should I plant them in a pot then in the ground? I have seen them here and they take up a whole block. Will they take some shade and still bloom well?

I know I am going down a new path here that I am going to regret.

Oh and they had tons of bananas I have never heard of too!

Trish, you have really done a fantastic job with your website and your new home. You have really accomplished a lot. It looks so good. Your ginger pictures are so pretty. I thought Elizabeth would be pretty; now I know she is gorgeous. But so are the others too. Your pictures are great.

Beautiful inspiring website! I only have two common garden gingers, don't even know their names. One is a varigated that I am assuming is Alpinia zerumbet
and the other has two bloom spikes right now, some kind of Hedychium, I think. Pic of last years bloom below. I have a trade end of the month for a white butterfly one. I have been eyeing more of the varigated ones, I see a collection starting here soon as i just love their blooms. Kell, we'll have to do some trading later as they increase!
Oh man, now all these ginger latin names to learn!

Kell, yes, pretty much it is the same (white butterfly & coronarium) Gingers are no where as invasive as some other plants.. but they do tend to clump larger each year

*blushing* Thank you Roz...... It's been a labor of love.. both the website and the swamp..

Calif Sue.. please post a pic of that second one when it opens..!!!

Trish, you have done a great job on your web pictures. Gingers are my first love, and you have some really beautiful ones.

I dug up Curcuma Red Dragon pups today for you and Barb both. I think Donna got one from Larry and his Mobile trip.

We'll get the rest when ya'll get here. I hope lots are blooming so you can see what they are.

I sent you a "want" list, didn't I? If I didn't let me know and I'll definitely do so.

Guess what I ended up with? LOL

sorry Trish just seeing this. Her swamp was beautiful before. I can't wait to see what all she has done now and with the neighbors working on there side too now it should be awesome

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

So has Ms Munché gotten all her neighbors to become swamp people too?

What Chele?? GINGERS??? LOL!! You got a variegated one that I am coveting sight unseen.

Sue, my instigator!! Can you show a pic of your variegated ginger close up? What is the flower like? I like big and bold and gaudy. The one you posted is sure pretty. But it is so fragrant it can make me sick. LOL. A house in Hayward has a whole block of just that ginger and above it is a huge Frosty. Talk about fragrance!!

Oh Trish I just reread your first post. So sorry your heart has been so heavy! I wish I could help you feel better.

Kell, I haven't had a flower on the varigated one yet. I have it potted with a coleus by my pond.
I really want to add some of those lovely shell gingers where the bloom spikes hang, maybe that's what this one will do eventually.
