Hi everyone, I have not posted for awhile been on the road alot this year. I thought I better report in so you all didn't forget about me lol.
My two Maya's are doing well, I potted one and planted one in the ground. The one in the ground has not been growing as fast as the one in the container only about a foot tall but looks good. The other one is about 2 1/2 ft tall but in bloom.
Here is a picture of the one in the container, not a good pic but never the less a bloom, it bloomed yesterday.
The weather here I think has caused some problems with the Brugs this season it is so up and down, One week temps in the high 90's with heat index of around 105 and then the next week a cooling spell sets in for the low 80's and very very very dry I do a rain dance every day with no
luck. Sometimes they have to be watered 3 times a day or they wilt something awful. The humidity
here will take your breath away.
They get fertilized once a week except for in the extreme heat.

Maya field test from Ohio
Very pretty. Good job, I love Maya. Mine turns peachy color.
Yea JoAnn!!
What're the differences in sunlight? My inground got bigger and has already had it's first bloom. The container is filling out buds but not as big and it's been shade except early morning and late afternoon.
8ft.bed,
The one in the ground is in shade until about noon and then full sun the rest of the day until about 6pm. The one in the container get sun from about 10 am until 6 pm so not to much difference there just a couple of hours hmmmmmmmmmmmmm have to think about that one. Can a couple of hours make that much difference.

Hey Joann! WB!
I was out a bit ago and enjoying the scents! I have blooms on Tequilla Sunrise (for the first time ever and had that thing for 3 years. It was headed for the trash if it didn't bloom this year), my huge white, Dr Seuss (Thanks Margie!!) and Georgia Peach. Boy, does it smell good out there! First Day is about to pop again too.
I did not put any in the ground this year and I am watering them three times a day as well. LOL
Great job JoAnn!!!!!!!! Thanks for the update.
My goodness, I didn't realize you were so close to me!!! We should get together sometime!!!
~Laurrie
Badseed, I havn't heard from you in ages and we live so close what have you been doing other than growing those beautiful Brugs, saw your pic's on the post and taking care of the girls and DH and working.
Ohio Breezy where is Dundee exactly. I don't think there are too many of us Ohioians that will admit to zone denial and grow these beautiful tropicals.
JoAnn
JoAnn
Dundee is 20 minutes south of Wainwright/Dover/New Phila area. 30 minutes south of Canton? ring any bells?hmmmm 10 minutes from Sugarcreek.
LOL zone denial LOL well we HAVE to try with these don't we? It just wouldn't be the same if we just got to lookie at the pictures and never get to smell one!!!
My sister had only gotten to see one of mine last fall right before it was dug to bring inside for winter, she stopped last night, and kept staring at my plants all lined up in front of my livingroom window (planted in ground) I told her what they were and she says, "Are those like that thing (((THING))) that you had planted last year by your pond with the big long flower?" YEP I told her, well anyway, she went home with a cutting LOLOLOL "note that she wore a grin from ear to ear as she was leaving LOLOLOL
My husbands (Basiletti/Grasselli) family grew up in the Goshen/Wainwright area!!!!!!!!!!!!
~Laurrie
in front of those 3 windows is where I am growing out 5 of my brugs, it will smell wonderful when they all start, I will open my window and drool!
ps - don't mind the mess, we recently had a total reconstruction of our basement from the flooding in Jan. and had to remove the old porch and lift house, etc. We just had the new patio poured 7-16 so it's still messy
We really should get together sometime! My life has been tied up in odd jobs around here, moving sprinklers and emails and calls with real estate agents and bankers. We are thinking about buying a property in Lynchburg. At this point, school is going to start soon and I don't know if I can handle the stress of moving right now. LOL We are seriously deciding whether to buy now or hope something similar becomes available in the spring. Got any wild desire to help me move about 5000 plants? ROTFLOL
Badseed - Traitor!!!! just kidding, but move!!!! out of Ohio, what are you thinking LOL TN is a lovely place but no matter where I have lived I always seem to gravitate back to Ohio, the home stompin grounds.
You poor dear, you will have a heck of a time hauling that many plants, I think I would have someone down there, and start packing and shipping in between the move LOL
thinkdirt, beatiful maya. You are one of the lucky few who was able to grow Both. If I remember correctly, most people lost their "skinny" maya. My chunky Maya is planted inground full AM sun, PM shade and hasn't grown tall but has developed branches. However compared to other people's, it is a shortie.
congratulations. I am thrilled to be a partner w/ you and others in growing these generous gifts.
Lynchburg, Ohio! LOL Actually, I'd be moving closer to Joann. It is over by Blanchester, Hillsboro, Lebanon, Wilmington, etc.
There are really a lot of cities called Lynchburg!
Are you busy? bwah ha ha ha ha
OH duh!!!!!!!!!! I just automatically think TN!!!! so sorry, well good you aren't a traitor then tee hee.
hmmmmmmmmmmmm busy, let me think on that and get back to ya lOLOLOLOL
pssssssst, it won't be easy moving that many plants, but hopefully since it's not as FAR as I thought it will make it a mite easier?
Ohio Breezy, Love the pic but if you call that messy, don't ever come to my house LOLLOL. I seem to garden all the time and never get around to cleaning up the messes I make. Hoses are all over the place, empty pots that I never get around to putting away I keep on planting and the pots just keep sitting around like they are watching me wouldn't you think the least they could do is put themselves away. And not to mention the WEEDS they really like me this year we are becoming best buddies I do not have the best looking beds at this point but what the heck they are flowers also don't you think . Goshen Ohio is about 35 miles east of Cincinnati.
Vossner, thanks for the kind words. I was thrilled that both of them are doing well but slow growing.
Badseed, Move all those plants it might be better to pick the best and leave the rest. OR how about sharing with friends (Hint).
JoAnn
LOL You two! Every time I mention moving all these plants, my list of friends grow shorter and shorter. LOL
I have to take my hem collection which is around 350 give or take. And I have to take my brugs, ears, cannas, bulbs, named hosta, lilies, etc. I can divide the grasses and still leave nice chunks. I NEED the alliums, amsonias, hem seedlings, greenhouse....
When all is said and done, I am leaving behind 'landscaping' and not my gardens. LOL
LOL You will leave behind the bare bones like I did when I moved I bet LOLOLOL
Well the bones will include the original trees and shrubs with additional black eyed susans, unamed daylilies and iris, butterfly bushes and odd and end bulbs with a bunch of mulch. Could be worse! LOL
hmmmmmmmmmm now I may have to sneak to your place!! pick thru the leftovers LOL
