Stroll through the Garden

Castlegar, BC(Zone 6b)

Another gorgeous, but very warm day today. High is again for 35C. It has been hot for a few weeks now, and we have had no precipitation at all. The forcast is for these temps to continue for the next week at least. Already we have had some fire bans put in place.

My Mom was visiting for a week and she just left to go back home to Edmonton. I felt lazy, so I grabbed the digi and headed for the garden.

First up...Stargazers are showing their "stuff". Love 'em!

Thanks for the pictures, Donna - it is always nice to see what is going on in other people's gardens. I have started picking my cherry tomatoes a few days ago. They are indeed "yummy" !

Beautiful Donna !

Thanks Joelle. How are you and the Garden?

They are my favourite to Heather. At the rate they are turning, we should be able to start slurpin' them back next week. I have two big baskets of them! We can never get enough of cherry tomatos. :)

Nice pictures Donna. I agree with Heather, it's nice to see what's blooming in other peoples' gardens. I almost feel like I've been in part of your back yard. You have a very nice looking vegetable garden.

I'll have to post a few pictures. The Stargazer I gave my mom a few years ago is blooming like crazy too and it seems to have multiplied nicely. Your brug looks like it's going to open any day now. You must be excited. Your Silver Wave Petunia is huge and beautiful. Our cannas are late I guess because they aren't even close to blooming yet. We've eaten a couple of the Tumbler tomatoes off the plant you gave me. I took a picture the other day so I could show you.

Hi OFG:

Nice photos, and some great flowers. I'd never seen a Moth orchid before - sure are beautiful.

Is a Cupid's Dart the same as a Cornflower? Looks the same in the picture, but not sure I'd spot small differences.

Squirrels have gotten every tomato so far!! How do you save yours?

I put my phal outside for the summer tucked in the ferns by the pond. must like it because it too has started to bloom. With any luck i will get home before dark one of these evenings and be able to post the august look of the garden

Their all beautiful, Donna.

Believe it or not, my Petunia's are finally looking like their going to amount to something. But, some of them keep changing colours. They're weird. For example, one part of the plant will have flowers that are stripped, while another part of the plant is a solid colour. I have one that changes entirely by getting all it's blooms going and being a Redish colour, then drops it's flowers and comes back looking yellow, and has dropped it's flowers again and they look like their coming back a dark red. I have another one that was a stripped red & white, then all red, then purple, and it's now red with a white fringe.

When I get the chance, I'll take some pictures of them so you can see what I mean.

As always Donna, it's great seeing what you've grown. They all look they belong in my yard. ;)

How tall is the brug Donna? My babies are only about 1.5 feet yet, but look very happy. Guess it will ne next year before I see flowers.

Stargazers are just budding here, yet friends of mine have cherry tomatoes barely starting to redden up...guess they were far along when they bought them.

No sign of buds in my Canna yet...maybe October!

Phals are one of the best orchids...relatively easy to grow and the blooms last for months. Here's my best one at the moment.

Looking forward to your August pics of your Garden Lynn.

Darrell, I know what you mean about the variations in the color of these seeds. Mine are not as evident as yours, but I have two smaller pots of the Silver Wave Petunia. They hang from an arbor, side by side, with the same sun exposure. Yet one of them has definitely creamy, almost white flowers, where the one next to it has far more of a lavender color. Strange, huh?

Todd, I went and measured Mama brug this morning and she is 3 feet tall. I got this Knightii Brug from a friend in Alberta as a cutting last fall. So don't give up hope that you won't get any blooms. Maybe in the fall. That's when I expect most of my others that look like they are starting to "Y" to flower. BTW, your Phal is beautiful.

I am very proud of my Tumbler cherry tomatos. I grew them from seed and gave several plants away, still leaving me with two large baskets of them. I will definitely grow them again next year.

Marilyn, I guess I was just lucky with the tomatos in my veggie garden. Although we have a few squirrels around, my garden is in raised beds and behind a six foot fence. Of course, we have two cats and a dog, which might also be a determining factor. :)

Here is a close-up photo of a Catananache (Blue Cupid's Dart) for a comparison to a Cornflower.
