Need San Antonio assistance please

Crestview, FL(Zone 7b)

shhhh.. I snuck out of the Florida forum because you guys here are the only ones to help me. I have a friend that lives in San Antonio and is wanting to puchase some hedychiums for his yard after seeing mine. What I need is a nursery or list of nurseries in the S.A. area that would carry these plants. TIA!!

I'm sorry, I feel like a total dunce, but what are hedychiums?

Thanks...

Hedychiums are gingers... the butterfly type

Well, I have never snuck out of Florida (staggered out a few times) but never snuck.

Heres one your friend might try. Its Milberger's Landscaping & Nursery (see the link)

Dont really know much about them, since I live in Houston, but I would give them a call. If they dont have it, they can get it or tell you where to get it.

Good Luck

Rainbow Gardens carries hedychiums. I phoned them just to be sure. (210-680-2394). There are three locations; my favorite is 8516 Bandera Road.

Sorry to be slow to respond; I was sorta waiting for htop to spot this inquiry. She can probably tell you what colors/cultivars are there.

You're right about htop. She would be a big help. I do have butterfly ginger, but I bought it at the Antique Rose Emporium in Independence. They probably have some at the one in SA too. In fact I know they have some planted in one of their gardens.

thank you all for the responses... I will pass the info on to my friend.....

MzMunchken,

Would you believe I was in your neck of the woods Tuesday? Twice?

Had I known I could have brought some back to TX for your friend....

Rainbow Gardens on Bandera Road has several types of gingers. I purchased my variegated shell ginger and one hedychium that I can't remember its name there. It is now 6 feet tall and has a bloom stalk on it; but, the blooms have not opened yet. They had white gingers (Hedychium coronarium) last year, but I think that they had sold all of them by July when I wanted to buy one. They may havae aome more in by now. Hopefully, their gingers are all on sale now.

dstartz - well next time you are coming by this way let me know and I'll give you a tour of the "swamp" where my gingers reside http://mzmunchken.com/Gingers/gingers.htm
thanks htop.. If he can't find any in the SA area I will dig him up some tubers this fall and mail.
