CLOSED: Have WATER HYACINTHS & WATER LETTUCE

Collins (90 min. dr, MS(Zone 8b)

Both are MARVELOUS at keeping my goldfish pond water clear. They help make it a good natural ecosystem. After getting these, I no longer need a filter.
--have LONG filtering roots that apparantly work quite well for ponds.
bloom really well. I bought these as "miniature",but if there's a larger version I'd like to see it!

Nancy-
are you looking for waterlilies, or other pond plants?
Or, other perennials?

they just passed a bill here in Sc and going to in Ga that have made these totally illegal even to own. 5000 fine or up 6 years in prison if caught.

please everyone check your state laws on this one just to be safe.

W. hyacinth is illegal in CA, too.

(Taylor) Plano, TX(Zone 8a)

I looked it up, too. Looks like Texans are only permitted to have it, if they apply for a permit.
If it is for pond use, and not to be introduced into a waterway, it is allowed, but only with a permit...

Whoa! I knew growing SOME weeds were illegal, but didn't think it'd cost $5000 if someone got caught for even growing Marijuana!!! LOL

Looks like water hyacinths are even worse---& I can tell you why: THEY MULTIPLY LIKE NOTHING I"VE EVER SEEN (sorta like Kudzu, if you're from the South, you'll know what I mean).

I've got a page that tells what I'm looking for:

Baytown, TX(Zone 9b)

These are now federally illegal.

Well folks, I guess I'll just have to use my water hyacinths for compost. Just found out they're illegal. My offer for water lettuce still stands, however.

Pocahontas, TN(Zone 7b)

MississippiSkie - I know the feeling. Those of us who want them in the future best winter them over. By the way, they do make great "green compost".
