My Star is Back :)

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

This is Star Dancer, I thought I lost her last year to the wetness, but a dear friend gave me back a piece of her. How I longed for her scent!

She is GORGEOUS !!!! Does she smell as good as she looks?? I have seeds, a cross, and I hope they look just like her, my goodness she is pretty...if you need to trial her in zone 8a, give me a ring dingy!!!!

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

This time I have her in a raised bed, so hoping for the best. She's so much smaller this time, please keep your fingers crossed that she prospers for me?

You bet!! All digits crossed!! Good luck and please keep us posted...

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Goodness, she looks like a Lily!!! Beautiful!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Vi the one you gave me has given me several good flushes. She has a wonderful heavy scent like Monster.

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Very beautiful. I haven't seen the corolla separate like that and with mondo fragrance too boot. So very nice.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

How did I miss this? Vi that is fantastic news! I'm glad you got your baby back.

Ozark, AL(Zone 8b)

I really like this one; I don't think I've seen it before?! Such a neat split skirt!

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Sherry, she is unique for sure, and yes, her scent is the best I've smelled :)

Donna, did you get the huge flowers from the long ago ru? I'd love to see a pic of your whole plant.

Thanks Vicki, I'm so glad to have her back, I can't begin to tell you! She'll always be my favorite even white, even without tendrils.

Kristi, I can't believe you haven't seen her! Here's the silly thread where we all tried to name her, and the history. http://dg.davesgarden.com/forums/t/405637/

She really made the news at the Nov 03 plant swap, I carried her around all day--the flower lasted into the next morning (even after everyone played with her)!

Vi, she is gorgeous. You sent me a piece, but I lost it. I sure would love another chance. I remember what a star she was at the RU 03 10 .

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

How did you get the flower to last so long in water?
I cut one off the other night that I used to try pollinating. Then I stuck the cut end in a cup of water. The next morning it was laying flat like I'd pressed it in a book!

Ozark, AL(Zone 8b)

I didn't make it to that RU, but I remember seeing that pic; Getting older is the pits when it comes to running and remembering!!

Columbia, SC(Zone 8a)

Last year, I thought it would be nice to have a bouquet on the deck table for dinner.

They were not so nice for breakfast.

Lol!!! Yes, I've done that several times; so pitiful to see them in the morning!

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Here's a thought - I wonder if treating like poppies and immediately searing the cut end would work?

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

Great to see you beautiful Star Dancer again.

Wonder what ever happened to Tonny's with the rounded edge sepals?

re : cutting brugs for a bouquet.............

Only way to do it is to cut a chunk of branch with the flowers.

These Pink Beauty cuttings bloomed for over a week in the vase.

That makes a lovely presentation. I'll give it a try.

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Last year, first freeze, I cut back several with buds and used them inside when they bloomed, they lasted a couple of days and smelled like heaven...I hope I have the opportunity to do that again this year...

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

I think they both are unique in their own way...I like the look of both, how neat !! Glad you got back with the Star, very nice .

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I love the flower on that
It would be nice to work on getting that gene in a white or a color with long tendrils with that flower formation

Tellico Plains, TN(Zone 7b)

hehehehe , Split tendrils too ? Interesting ;-)

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Vi, It is pretty.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

One of the main reasons I love it is it's thick waxy bloom, it's the only one I've had to last in a vase.

I hope to keep her in the ground and keep the next cutting potted. I had her in the same pot for 3 years and she flourished, of course, that was before I knew how to take care of brugs :(

New Hyde Park, NY(Zone 7a)

Very pretty.

Very pretty Donna!!! I love to see them do well with you, which means they will most likely do well here too. All of the cuttings you sent me last year are blooming and, or budding, I'm so happy with them, they are healthy and eash to grow, sun is not a problem with them and not a single one has wilted or melted, thank you so much!!!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

She is just so awesome, I must say! I am so impressed by her unique appearance, and her blooms look so rich. I want to sniff the screen, lol. Thanks for sharing!

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks, Donna! What a nice tree you have, you're such a good brug mom :)
Do you still have her in a pot ?

My ground is so saturated, wondering if I should dig her back up and put her in a pot, would you? So sick of heavy downpours :(

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

yes Vi she is in a big blue tub with handles. WalMart has them for 5 bucks. Fixing to put my tropical hibiscus in them before winter if I am able.

Deltona, FL(Zone 9a)

I love those pots. And the handles are a nice plus.. Donna wonderful bloom.
