Hey Datdog (Kristi) look at the monster you created...

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Kristi- this should encourage you - look at this nearly 6ft seedling of your cross Butterfly X Creamsicle. Look at these ENORMOUS leaves! LOL It does seem to have Y'd at the top but I don't see any buds yet..hopefully soon. Take a look at the next post to remind yourself how this seedling looked exactly 1 month ago tomorrow...

Your too sweet Diane! ((hugs)) to you and your big ole' plant you got growing there. :)

Hey..I just noticed I was wearing the same outfit in both pics --well, the T-shirt is different. I think I better quit buyin brugs and get myself some new outfits! LOL

My word now thats some big big leaves.. wow.... what did you feed with..? really neat.

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Hi, Twyla - I hit all my brugs with:

Spray and Grow - once per week

Calmag - 15-5-15 - once per week

Messenger - once every 3 weeks

and Seaweed Magic (seaweed extract in foliar application) - once per month

My other brugs have leaves alot closer to the norm in size. But this seedling cross has been a real feisty, strong grower from the get go. It germinated in 10 days and has bounced back from cold, overwatering, poor nutrition, spider mites and general neglect and every time it comes back stronger than before - I have to believe the flowers will be something special cause it wants to live so badly! LOL I really pray it flowers before frost I've got to see what the flower holds in store for me. I do have a second one of these seedlings that is a strong grower too - but not quite to this level.

Diane...I am really anxious to see that ones bloom also! Those are some sized leaves!

Did the pink plague get all the way out there....WOW!!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

I like Spray & Grow too Diane, but your leaves might be the biggest I've seen, WOW, they are beautiful, healthy monsters. My two with the largest leaves, and they are big, but not nearly as big as yours, but, neither one has buds yet, and it's had a pretty good growing season, I burned all the others but not these two and they don't have bug problems and they are about 11+ feet tall (will check that to see for sure), and PF is right by them and she's flushed every day since June 23. A mystery, for sure. I'm really looking forward to seeing yours bloom, maybe the blooms will be bigger than the leaves, making it really worth the wait!!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Kristi I have 3 that have done that from your seeds(Rosamond x Creamsickle). I just now was able to bump them from 1 gal to 5 gal pots. I sure hope they turn out to be very special brugs because they are growing like gang busters. I mean from seed to over 3' in 3 months in 1 gal pots

Aberdeen, NC

Where are you going to put that this winter? I might be able to find a home for it. LOL That is one big plant!! and still growing

I can't wait to see these blooms either. All of the X Cream sickle I am so intrigued with. Too cool if you all get all colored doubles. My fingers are crossed for all of you!!

Just Beautiful !! Such a healthy looking brug and can't wait to see how the blooms will look on that Monster!!!
Good Growin Diane.
Edit: You are Forum Photo of the Day also Diane......

Hey Datdog got any more of those bionic seeds. Would sure love to grow some in florida. Even with the flower being sight unseen!!

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

I just know that these are the leaves that Adam and Eve wore! Those are some whopper leaves. I'm glad they do not always stay that big. You'd never find the flowers lol!

Harlem, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm thinkin' with whopper leaves maybe....just MAYBE....lol...the flower's just might be just as BIG so as not to compete with it's leaves? eh? Makes sense to me!

I love the look, it's got great potential! Congratulations to both Kristi on her cross and Diane on doing a great job loving and nurturing her!!

Keep them pics rolling as she progresses

pretty cool. I've GOT to get that messenger out and do some spraying!

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Thanks all for the encouragement and the laughs:

Alohahoya - yep the pink craze is way out here in Connecticut too. LOL I do have way more pink brugs than any other color - but like a lot of folks I am now leaning towards yellows and whites.

Sherrylike - Yes, the spray and grow has really helped I think, but not all my brugs are this healthy looking believe me. Two of my biggest brugs - a Citronella and Donna B's Monster white were huge and lush 3 weeks ago and absolutely covered in buds. Well the spider mites have gotton them so bad - they are both nearly defoliated now and look positively sad. (my Avid arrives today, however - so those little )(*)*&%*!!! are history tonight!)

Xeriscape - I think I have some more of Kristi's seeds of this cross. I'll check tonight and if so I can send you a few to try.

Kell - I SOOO hope you are right - a double pink would cure all that ails me and be a great reward for all work that goes into keeping these pots watered.

VEE8ch - I laughed out loud when I read your comment about Adam & Eve - TOO funny.

I'll keep you all posted -- I really think she will set bud soon.

Whopper leaves whopper flowers :) It's highly possible with Creamsickle as a parent.
I have a few whopper Creamsickle flower pictures that I took of Susie's brug when we lived in TN. If I remember correctly they were about 17" long. I was totally impressed. I can picture them on this seedling.
Keeping my fingers crossed for a 24" double, triple, quadriple any color except brown. :)

Zion, IL(Zone 5a)

Hope it Y's and buds before the frost flys. I've got one from Brugie seed thats past the rain gutter now. Y'd twice or thrice but no buds yet.

Are you mixing your spray and grow in a big sprayer? I saw that stuff on QVC this spring and ordered the big combo pack. Haven't even cracked a seal on it yet. Hope it doesn't have a shelf life.

Ok Diane, I've taken notes here...what I need??? or what I want????That's what he asks me everytime..."is it a want or a need" IT IS BOTH!!! ....now gotta convince the DH I NEED & WANT the things on my wish list to create something so beaaaaaaaaaaaaut------tiiiiiiiiiiiiii-FULL as you have....Thanks for being so inspirational cos' you most definetely inspired me.

List:

Spray and Grow - once per week

Calmag - 15-5-15 - once per week

Messenger - once every 3 weeks

and Seaweed Magic (seaweed extract in foliar application) - once per month

**wish me luck**

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Golly Vee8ch - What a flower! I'm crossing all my fingers and toes that something as wonderful as that comes out of this seedling.

Blaine - I bought mine off QVC this past March and I have used it faithfully every week since.
Back in march everything was still in the house or my little greenhouse and that stuff made a measurable difference in 3-4 days time. Too bad it doesn't keep those blasted spider mites away! And yes, I mix it in a 1 gallon sprayer of hot water and spray away.

BrugAddict - great list! LOL The Seaweed Magic by the way, I got from Park Seed. It comes in a small packet of powder that you mix in 1 gallon jug of water - that is the Concentrate. From that you use only a Tablespoon or 2 to a gallon of water and spray it on the foliage. I haven't even used a quarter of that gallon of concentrate yet.

Great it goes a long way!

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Good luck with the Avid, Diane!! It did me no good because I was spraying for 'mites' that did not exist, they had chemical burn. That was last year. This year something similar happened and the ONLY good thing about it is that I didn't pull the trigger. But it broke my heart, for a while, but, I'm all better now with maybe 8, a few more or less, seedlings that have Yed, and several with buds. Your giant leaved seedling REALLY goes well with the beautiful rock home that John created - it's really a giant piece of art and your brugs compliment it oh so nicely!!!!

Ozark, AL(Zone 8b)

I'd have to have that just for the leaves! Instant jungle with just a couple of them! 'Course I'd be glad if they happend to have giant colored double flowers too! Good luck!

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Thanks all - yes, she's a beauty, eh? I also have another wonderful seedling I'm growing and the leaves on that are pretty huge too. Its Dawna Bernier's cross Versi Orange X Rosabelle. Here's a pic of it - looking pretty good too, no?? It is not quite as tall as Kristi's , but it was sowed the same day - Feb. 22, 2005.

I'm so glad to have found a fellow brug lover here in CT - Dawna came to visit me last week and we had a great time.

WOW!!!!!!!

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

I've got to get some Spray and Grow. Think I'll go to QVC and see if they still have it. I'll have to be careful when I spray though that I don't get any on my thighs. LOL

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

LOFLMAO Minigrannie - I just came in from spraying the mite stricken brugs with Avid and I sat down with a bowl of cereal to read your post and spit some rice crispies on the keyboard when I read your post. Reminds me of when I started using Messenger last year and I was so impressed with the way it seemed to give things a growth spurt and make old tired plants look young and vibrant again I seriously considered taking a bath in it :-)
or at least spray some on my chest {grin}!!

Diane

edited to correct my babbling..."Avid stricken Avid" jeesh...

Diane, looking great, keep up with the photos, can't wait for blooms. Rosabelle has always had huge leaves for me. It was beheaded by storm last month :(

Hey minnie - if you do get a little overspray and it works, let me know!! I got a gallon of the stuff I haven't used yet but...

Those leaves are amazing!!!!

Have any pics that better show off those stone pillars in the background? After being thoroughly impressed with your Brug, those started jumping into focus.
