Ever since my Charles Grimaldi blossomed, I have been on a quest for more brugs. It really is addicting :). I am wondering if it is very hard to start B. Sanguinea from seed? Are there any tips anyone could give me? Thank you so much for your help.

Starting B. Sanguinea From Seed
Hi Lindsey!! I have started some from seed as well as Vulcanicolas. They were no different than other brug seeds as I recall. However, I am not sure they will like where you live. Do you have cool nights there? They like it cooler than your usual brugs. A few here have grown them in hotter places to flower but I am doubtful about how long they will flourish. Most report they die fairly soon when it hits prolonged hot spells.
Thanks for the information. We get down to mid 70's at night, I wonder if that is too hot...It's worth a try anyhow. Thanks a bunch,
Lindsey :)
I would just add that fresh seed works better for me with the Sangs.
Thank you for the reminder imcanadian.
Hi Lindsey, I started mine from seed and it is about 3 feet tall. I had it where it got only morning sun and then shade but it didn't even like that. I have it in complete shade all day and it seems to like that better but it hasn't bloomed. Hope it does before it goes to bed for the winter.
Jeanette
Jeanette,
Thanks for the information. I have plenty of full shade spots, so maybe I'll try it there. I'd love to see pictures once yours has bloomed :).
Jeanette, have you tried cuttings? I started Sangs from seeds 2 years ago and got several nice plants, they all died in the heat. Do you just want more brugs, or do you specifically want sangs? There will be lots of cuttings this fall. (and I have Rosamond x Dr Seuss seeds being offered on another thread).
Lindsey, I started five seeds and only one lived, I fight every day to keep it alive, only put it outside in the evening if it has cooled down, she is a very SLOW grwer, and always dropping leaves, I would not try another, mine is the Sanguinea Red.
Hi LindaSC, No, I don't specifically want Sangs, and no, I haven't tried any cuttings. I would kind of like to see mine bloom. Yes, I saw you had the seeds for Rosamond and Dr. Seuss . I put my name on your thread but since I hadn't heard anything I thought maybe you had more than enough people request them.
Have you had any of the Rosamond x Dr. Seuss bloom? Bet they are going to be gorgeios. Isn't the Tropical Sunset a cross of Frosty and the Dr.? I love that TS. I bought one off of Ebay and it had spider mites. It is just now coming out of that. Doubt if I will get blooms this year but I sure do like that one so yours should be beautiful.
I have started a lot of plants from cuttings but think the seeds are especially interesting. Problem is not knowing what they are going to be. But you get that with cuttings also. I have a single white blooming now that was suppose to be a double. It is a huge plant though taking up center stage. LOL

Also Lindsey, I just wanted to say that I don't know as though the Sangs are any slower growing than the others. Our weather has been pretty hot the last couple of weeks (mid 90's) and it seems to do just fine as long as I give it water and it is not in the sun.
I have another one that is in a 6 inch pot, now it gets morning sun, pretty hot, and it is fine but would probably grow much faster if I gave it bigger shoes. It is geting a good strong stock. Maybe I will repot it tomorrow. It's funny, I can repot these brugs in this heat and as long as I give them water and keep them out of the direct sun they do ok.
Jeanette
Sangs sound quite particular about the weather conditions! I just ordered some seeds and I'll try my luck at it. Thank you for all the helpful information
Lindsey :)
I bet they work great in your zone, good luck!!
I am a firm believer that if you want something, try it. Just remember and take into account the experiences of other people. Especially on the invasive plants. Jeanette
