Hi everyone!
I am new to this forum and I just wanted to introduce myself. I was born and raised in Detroit, lived in Taylor for about 28 years, and for the past 10 years have lived in Roscommon County, Nester Township (mailing address Gladwin). I am so happy to have found this forum. I have so many flowers that it drives my hubby crazy. He said that I need help. I have about 175 irises and a big perennial garden, lilies, butteryfly bushes, lilacs, etc. Now I have someone to share my pictures with. Since I have lived down state, I know all about Blocks too! I work in MIdland and have to drive 52 miles one way to go to work, so I don't check my email or forums daily, but hopefully this weekend I will be able to post some pictures. Thank you to everyone who welcomed me to the forum!

New to forum
Welcome Marilyn! I used to spend my summers up on Crescent Lake in Gladwin. I can still remember going to the ice cream store on those summer nights.
Nick
Welcome Marilyn,
No, you don't have too many flowers. Do you have any tips on the butterfly bushes? I have a hard time getting them to overwinter.
Hi Marilyn,
Welcome to the Michigan forum! I'd love to see pics of your big perennial gardens.
Sandy, are you sure your butterfly bushes are dead? I've almost given up on mine some years but find that those dead looking branches come alive if you ignore them. :)

Welcome Marilyn, don't be a stranger!!!

WELCOME all our newbies-i try to say hello when I see you sign on-but some of you slip by!
Hi Marilyn,
I am glad you left your name. I would have felt strange addressing this to God. Among the wonderful things about Gladwin County is Stone Cottage Gardens, one of my very favorite nurseries. I had wanted to get up there this spring or summer. Now I am hoping for fall. Your festival around the 4th of July is also fun. I just joined DG too, so I am figuring out the ropes.

Hi Nick. If you are talking about The Corner House ice cream parlor on M-18 and Pratt Lake Road, they closed down last summer. Will really miss them.
Hi Sandy. Butterfly bushes die down to the ground here in my zone (4). I always wait until spring to cut them down to about 12 inches. Last winter hubby dumped ashes from our woodburning on them and this year they are huge, so I guess they need to be fertilized. Before that, they did okay, but not like now.
Hi Deann. I looked at your website. I love your pictures! Thank you so much for sharing them with me. Your flowers are so pretty!
Hi Judy. I see you already know about Stone Cottage Gardens. I can't believe I have lived here all this time and just found out about it. I stopped there last week on my way home from work, but it was already 5:30, and they close at 6. I can't wait to go back!
Hi everyone who made comments. I am working on my on line photo albums, but it is taking me a long time because most of my pictures are 3072 x 2048 pixels, so most of them have to be reduced and then transferred to my album which can take a lot of time. Whenever I get it done, I will post a link for anyone who is interested. This forum is going to be so much fun!

Marilyn,
They closed?! Oh no.. That was such a great little place. Any info on why? Is the building and buisness for sale?
I think the owner died and the family didn't want to keep it. When I drive past it on Monday going to work, I will look and see if there is a for sale sign up and let you know.
Welcome,
I am a newcomer as well. I have not had time to post much. What a great bunch of people to ask questions of. They love pictures so feel free to share!
Donna
