that is a very cool plant. I got some in trade in spring, growing but I doubt they will bloom this year. I gave some early last year to one of my favorite friends and they bloomed this year. she's loving them too.

Thanks, Marcy, vossner and Nat. I got mine at the Florala Swap as a bulb. I'm just trying to remember who gave it to me. Might have been Tom.

Yes... one of my favorites... I planted about 6 of them.. and they bloomed all at diffrent times..this photo doesn't show it's golden tips to the flower... but that's one of the most beautiful aspects of this as a new flower... Gordon NYC rooftop zone 4-14

You're right, Gordon. The tips do have a golden touch which doesn't get captured. I wonder how fast they will multiply.

Gee..Donna...
I can't say.. last year there seemed to be more than I'd planted... I have to dig there in the fall... so all of thar cool fall I'm already inside with the bulbs...not in the ground makeing new bulblets... Gordon

What's this beauty doing now at this time of the year?! It normally comes out in April end or May [at least here in our part of the world].

Brooklyn, NY(Zone 7b)

OH Dinu.. mine was up a month or so ago... yes... real latebut they were in the ground late... and it was a cold and wet spring.. everything is real late... I also have to dig the bulbs every fall.. replanting in the spring after the ground warms up some... this will slow everything down.. as it's rooting and starting over ... but definitely worth the effort to get such a wonderful gift .. of such a large and brightly colored bloom... for the few weeks it is showing... Dinu, mine bloomed about the same time as yours did, and I cannot wait til next year to see it again. I heard that they like to be crowded. Does that sound right?

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

That could be right, Roz. As you can see I have mine planted in a small pot. Maybe that's how I got it to bloom so fast.

Mine is in the ground, and your bloom is so much bigger than my bloom was.

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Well than maybe being in a smaller pot works. Yeah!

I understand that they need not be repotted annually. They like to be in the same 'apartment' for 4-5 years without much disturbance. Water to be scantily done in the winter months, to produce good blooms. But mine is in the ground and thebulbs slowly divide. It the bulbs are disturbed, they will take a long time to overcome the shock and that results in poor blooming.

Thanks for the info, Dinu. I'll will leave it than in the same container when I bring it in for the winter.
