Hello everyone,
Just wanted to say hi! I just stumbled upon this forum. My name is Paula Furtwangler and I am a total plumeria fanatic...I am a Director for the Plumeria Society and would like to invite you all to view our website at www.theplumeriasociety.org . I live near Houston, TX and own over 150 different cultivars, plus many duplicates and seedlings. I recently visited Australia and met many frangipani lovers over there. I am also a seller on ebay since 2000, and my ebay ID is plumeria-lady. I hope to get to know you all well, and I already recognize many names!
Paula
Hi I am new here
~~~~~~~~~Waving Hi and Welcome to Dave's Garden from Houston (Clear Lake).
I have been to one of your Plumeria sale on Nasa RD. in Seabrook. I had a wonderful time there. I bought a few cutting there too. I highly recommend your plumeria sales.
Dave's Garden is a great place to share your passion, and knowledge of plumerias and other plants. I hope to see you in the other forums also. Enjoy!
Patti
Hi Patti!
I'm so glad you enjoyed the sale. We have one in the Clear Lake area each year. Next year it will be in July instead of June. We will also have one in Richmond/Rosenberg area at the Fort Bend County Fairgrounds.
Thanks for the warm welcome!
Paula
lots of pretties in that pic. Pooch, pooch's mommie, and plumeria blossoms. welcome. The sale at the FBC fairgrounds is in my neck of the woods. I hope you'll have another one as Clear Lake is kinda far for me.
Hi Vossner,
Yes the sale in Rosenberg will be in June 2006. Watch the website for details. I think it will be the 2nd or 3rd Saturday in June.
Paula
Hi Paula! It's great to see you here and welcome to Dave's Garden!
We just recently got our own Plumeria Forum after asking Dave for it just a few short months ago. Before that, we posted about plumerias in the Tropicals forum, but Terry has graciously moved the old threads to the new forum.
I've added a couple of hundred cultivars to the PlantFiles and have uploaded many pictures, but the project is a work in progress. I have uploaded many of my own pictures and got permission to upload pictures of Brad's, Roger's, Jean's, Relda's, Carolyn's, Florida Color's, and some others. Feel free to upload any and all of your own photos or photos which belong to others as long as you obtain their permission first. Here's a link to the plumeria section of the PlantFiles: http://davesgarden.com/pf/b/Apocynaceae/Plumeria/
Again, welcome to Dave's, and it's great to see you here. Everyone is super nice, and you will fit right in. It's great to have someone so knowledgeable about plumerias here at Dave's.
Welcome Paula,
I am so happy you are here. I got all excited when I saw "Plumeria Lady " in Houston on the new subscribers list. I dont know you personally, however we had an e-bay transaction (or two) last year so your now part of my garden..
Glad your here,
Kathy
Thanks Clare and Kathy for the warm welcome! I am very excited I found this place...
Paula
Hello Paula and Welcome! :)
Welcome !
Hello Paula -- welcome to DG!
Kathleen
Paula, lets form a plan to entice some Maui members to join! I would like to see Roger here very much. I think I will buy him a subscription!
Hey, Paula !
Was looking at your lei (nice, photo) for the plumeria that I just received from a neighbor. She said to 'just cut some' off cause her yard guy hates it. So I cut a few of the branches hanging to the ground and don't know what kind they are. Smell great.
It looks like the flower you have that is yellow in the center with a little pink. Guess it would help to post a photo of the blossom. :)
And welcome to Dave's Garden :D
Done! I just bought Roger and Brad a subscription so, hopefully, they will be here shortly! Yippee!
"plumeriholics Inc." LOL! So true! Cute, Kyle:-)
Hi Everyone,
Kyle, Soozer, Kathleen, Flyboy, Miss, Clare, Michael, Kathy, Vossner, and Rose...Wow what a nice greeting! I see many of you are from Florida, what a great place to live. My dad lives in Sarasota. Kyle you are the first person I have ever known in Iowa to grow plumeria. Today I mailed a plumie to a friend in Anchorage, so the plants are popular everywhere!
Thanks again yall!
Paula
Paula, Kyle is an amazing gardener, landscaper, designer, and hybridizer. You should see his wonderful pictures when you get a chance. If you click on his name, you can click on the threads he has started and view some of his threads with pictures. Kyle was just saying that he used to have a collection of 200 plumerias, which he donated to a worthy cause. Kyle is a true inspiration for those who live in colder weather and even to those who don't!
Hey Paula!!
You were the first person to ever direct me in the plumie world!
Im glad to see your going to be active here!
Welcome Paula from a plumie lover in Saskatchewan, Canada (where the poor plumies spend much more time inside than outside.......and shiver and long for Florida when the temps outside their window is -52F).
Ah, our lovely Lilypon has the greatest challenges of all growing plumerias, don't you? And yet you persevere! Good on you, mate!
Hey, newbies (tee hee, jk), here's a tip about quoting, bold, underline, etc. : http://davesgarden.com/faq/forums/#131.
Also, here's a link to Dave's FAQ's: http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/dgfaq/
I keep hoping Brad and Roger will join in soon!
Malestrom....LOL i feel a song coming on.... but i need to go change into my disco clothes...ok?
Hello Paula...
Welcome to DG.. I've been to the plumeria site many times. I grow 8 different types in the artic portion of Florida.
Welcome Paula. My DH and I were sad to have missed the Plumeria sale this year. We are planning on trying to make the next one!
You go change gurl and ill meetcha there! ;)
Hi Kuai!
We will have 2 sales next year, and the last one will kick off the International Plumeria Conference next July. See the psa website for more information. Round Rock is a piece to cake trip compared to how far many people will be coming. Hope you can make it!!
Paula
PS the site is www.theplumeriasociety.org.
Michael, my boy, you learn fast!
Welcome Paula from a Plumie lover in Tennessee, I only have three but they are over 6 feet tall. They will move in for the winter in about 6 weeks. They get 6 months inside and 6 months out. I keep telling my brother in the Tropic portion of Florida to come get them.
MzMunchken..Whats this Artic Portion of Florida LOL.
Lilypon...You are really brave. I thought I was brave to try to have Pllumies in Tennessee.
Hi picabo and mz munchken,
I am assuming the artic part of Florida is Jacksonville? Or Tallahassee? Tennessee is not a hard climate to grow plumerias, we all have to deal with winter storage, even here in Houston. I just mailed a plumeria to Alaska, so that will be a big challenge...
I dig mine up each year and store in the garage. You may have to store yours in the house or basement if you have one...
Here is an old photo of a few years ago showing bare root storage of my plumies in the garage. I un pot many of them and stack into garbage cans. The smaller ones I leave in the pots.
Paula
i do a very similair thing here in Pa as paula does, but i leave a little soil ball around the roots since mine are coming into my house and being stored in a spare bedroom. (its a little dryer in the house and i think the small soil ball helps) but they are stacked in a rubbermaid tub in a corner of the room. very easy to store for the winter.
We will be there!!! We go to Houston pretty often. My DH has a ton of family that live in Pearland, Sugarland and Rosenburg!!
Great picture, Paula. That is good information that you and Miss have given because so many people will be doing the same thing this winter and will want to know if the trees will be all right like that. I recently posted some pictures of plumies overwintering in a Maui member's garage that were quite impressive!
I live in the Richmond/Rosenberg area. Paula, when do you bring your plumies indoors? Is after x/mas too late?
Clare it might have been paula's garage? they where impressive photos
Hi Vossner,
A good rule of thumb to store the plants here in Houston is Thanksgiving weekend. I bring them out around Easter time. Obviously, things may shift a week or 2 if you watch the weather forecasts. I choose to do it then because I have college age kids who come home during those times and can pitch in. The task is very difficult, and is very time consuming considering how many I have to dig and store. Here is a photo of our 12 year old Celadine (now approx age 20) getting moved into the garage. Some years we trim off the leaves before storage, some years we leave them on and let them fall off naturally later. That can tend to be a big mess in the garage late...
Clare, when are you moving to Colorado?
thanks plumerialady
