Burpee's Summerlong Basil

Kearny, NJ(Zone 7a)

The 2005 Burpee catalog description of this variety says "...the compact plants remain bushy and productive well into fall – virtually never going to seed". In case anyone is thinking of trying it, here's a pic taken July 30 of Summerlong doing the unthinkable...going to seed. After over 30 years of gardening and reading seed catalogs why am I not surprised.

I've never been a fan of any of the narrow or small-leaved basils except, of course for the citrus types like Lime or Lemon. While they are very ornamental, I find them a pain to cook with, plus they just don't seem as flavorful as the large-leaved varieties.

You know Breezymeadow I have to agree with with you. I grew Spicy Globe this year and its OK but I can't say it is the most flavorful basil I ever grew.
