Maya has done well until just today, where she looks a little pale, and has half a doz yellowing leaves with toasty borders. Too hot for her in full HOT sun?
Or too much systemic two weeks ago? She is 27", now
(Added a little mushroom compost two days ago).Hope she feels better tomorrow.
Maya test plant
Oooops, I replied to the wrong post, sorry about that.

WOW, Polly....hats off to YOU. You are so far ahead of me...great growing. I am hoping to see my first flower tomorrow morning!!!
Aloha!!!
Alho, the grand flush is not my Maya, it is vers orange; Maya is no where near blooming like yours! My hats off to you!
Polly those are some beautiful shots. The versi-orange is a big dangler, isn't she! Cleomes!! I love 'em but only grow them on the east side of the property since our prevailing wind is from the w, sw in the summer. Otherwise, when I get downwind of a thick stand of cleome I'm immediately wondering who goosed the skunk. :)
Maya is still looking good but maybe it was the heat plus systemic. Why did you treat Maya, has she been under attack? It seems like all the variegateds in my yard are pretty much left alone.
Good question, 8ft! She was doing just fine; I was treating the sau white and vers orange - real babies about mites - and Maya was close at hand.
(if it ain't broke ------)
Snowbank has done the same; two vari Brugs that don't need much chemical TLC.
I am starting to persue the Brugs that tend to nod, and stand away from the stem; Adora is one, Eventide, and my new cross of ET&Bert. The care of Vers or is a full time job, anyway.
But I'm going out right now to take a picture of PB's second flush in the HEAT - she is an 8 ft dangler, and is so healthy and lovely. (remains my favorite)
be right back -
You have a lovely yard, Polly. So much room. I am in envy!!
I love your ginger, such a bright color there.
My Maya only gets caterpillars and she gets those bad!! They make swiss cheese of her overnight.
I grew a couple of Cleomes last year in a pot but didn't notice an odor at all. By Blaine's description, i am so glad. LOL
I haven't noticed an odor, either, but my plants are well away from the house, as you can see.
They seed like crazy, so one plant will keep you in business forever.
(I DO have several Brugs with stinky leaves - HG for one - have you noticed?
"who goosed the skunk"...GREAT! expression... Blaine, you are a hoot.
And, Polly, your garden is great!!!
Polly... you just trot right back outside and have a close encounter of the nasal kind with the cleomes!
Do you have the dwarf? Want some seeds? They're shorter with their own twist on the blooms but the seed pods are so much fatter.
Still about the most photogenic flower you can find.. especially when backlit. For those wanting to try them, remember to wear gloves when it's time for cleanup. The stems are spikey as well.
I'll be pleased to send seeds to the 1st six folks who sign up in response; Mine just drop on the ground as the pods open, but you can throw them out into the garden in March.
(Thanks for the kind offer, Blaine; I think I'm about Cleomed out!)
kell, mine is also getting eaten up by what I think is caterpillars. ugh! but looks good despite that. Well compared to Polly's & 8 ft's, it is a runt. but I luv her anyway. excellent job.
Sounds like it's time for a little sevin powder shake; best for beetles and catepillars, and not as toxic as some -
