I have a wonderful new little Brug out in the yard in Full Sun! Grown from seed and I will let it sit out there for the winter too... So far it is a foot tall, 8 weeks old and is full of leaves with a red tint to them. Anyone know if this luck will keep going or am I doomed to fail at this one just give it time? It already made it through 100 degree plus days and just regular water? I have no idea the cross . . . just came marked Brug seed in a Robin. Sorry no pic - will get one on here before to long. Mitch
Full Sun?
Hi Mitch!! I would love to see it. The leaves sound so cool with a red tint to them. Sounds like you are doing everything right! And if it likes full sun, that is all the better. It may die though come winter frosts in zone 8A and not come back in spring. You might want to dig it up for the winter or take a cuttings ju t in case. It is too early to be talking winter though, I hate that we are into August already! i am not even done with my summer plantings yet.
Here she is - the photo (like always right?) did not get the red tone.. agg I will try again latter in the day to see if the sun can help me get it right. There are a few bug holes in the leaves... got a bad problem this year with hoppers but I think we have them stopped at last. The brick wall if 1 foot tall for reference.
Hi again Mitch! So what does in a Robin mean? You can imagine the picture I conjured up. LOL
I do think you may have a datura there. Often brugs are confused with datura even in nurseries. They have great flowers also. They set seed easily. Most die off come winter but they are so easy to start again from the seed they make. There are even triples! Purples too. I am not very knowledgeable about them, but someone might be able to tell just by looking at your leaves what color you have.
If you want, watch this forum for seed give aways or cuttings so you can get started on a real brug for next year.
A Round Robin, no name on it... oh well dantura miss marked . . . off to be pulled up!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh why pull it up? It might be just so beautiful!! And what if I am wrong?? I would feel so guilty!
I thought you might mean a robin bird dropped the seed. LOL. Sometimes I have my own way of thinking. LOL Of course it would have to be smart robin to label it. Though not too bright to label it wrong.
You make me feel so bad that I popped your happiness bubble , I want to send you some very pink (hopefully) seeds. Please send my your address if you are interested..
Why pull it ... I only have so much room and what if I follow in lovewith it and then no room for Brug?
Well keep it till you get that special brug!!! LOL.
I have room issues also. I used to think someday I will move and get a huge yard, but now I am getting too old to do a huge yard. Oh well........
I thought I had a big yard.. until I started to garden and now.... only those special things get space!
kind of like a tackle box or a purse ?
Always look so roomy and perfect in the store. By the time you've got necessities loaded, you have to start cramming stuff into pockets.... again!
Yep - get to be ruthless to get what you want in the garden... I tore out so many bushes this spring.. loved them but needed the room for things I loved more!
3 standard apples, 1 espaliered apple, 1 crab apple and one nanking cherry trained to standard form. Gone this spring...
2 nectarines and some dogwood bushes are on the hit list for this fall
You just got to do what you got to do.. 5 golden bushes, 6 boxwoods, 6 forsythia(sp?), two cherry trees dwarf, 2 nectarines, 2 maple, 2 Jap Maple - - - um this was this springs hit list.
I am moving near you guys. LOL
LOL - yep they got to go somewhere!
my problem is I have plans on making the norway maple street tree go away and put something quality in there. The city will want to get involved in that one. :(
Blaine, Kill it sneaky like in the middle of the night. Or call CC the plant terminator to help you. LOL Goodness, what does it take to kill a tree? I've never tried to do that.
Mary
heh hehe... I've been limbing up and chopping it but it thinks it's at a beauty salon. It's heavily planted underneath so it get lots of water and groceries.
