Look what the gardener dragged in...

Hope, BC(Zone 7a)

Was out in my yard early Sat. morning...watering, weeding, admiring, you know the usual...when I heard a "different" sort of chirp coming from the trees beside my house. Now, being a self proclaimed bird woman, I knew it was not your average chickadee, and knew that someone had lost a pet....
I then (being fluent in Budgie, Cockatiel and Lovebird) began to talk back to the chirping thing in the trees. It responded whole heartedly, and we spent the morning calling back and forth to each other. I still couldn't really tell which kind of bird it was, as it was still pretty far off in the trees, and then, as I laid back in my hammock, I saw a flash of green rocket past my head..LOL...

The day went on, I had my son in the house I had to look after, so I couldn't spend the WHOLE day outside talking to birds..but I kept thinking about him, and about how hot it was outside, and how he had no water and no food, and I just couldn't bear the thought of it..I went back out again at around 6:30 pm, and called to the bird, and he immediately came flying through the yard and over to my neighbors house in behind my lot. I kew they were all gone away for a few days, so I grabbed a box from the garage, and headed (snuck) over to the neighbors place..

There he was, a young looking kiwi green peach-faced lovebird, calling out to me and playing on one of her hanging baskets, trying to eat the fushia's..Anyway, it took me awhile with alot of coaxing and bribery with my own bird's food in hand, but eventually I was able to grab him/her. It was calm immediately, didn't even try to bite me, just hung out in my hands while I walked as fast as I could over to where I had put down the box. Well, I had just happened to get back my large budgie cage from my mother the weekend before, so the lil' lovebird had a ready made home waiting for him!

This is now the 2nd pet bird I have managed to catch in the wilds..LOL...not exactly a small feat, those who have done it before well know. I mean, they've obviously got the wings, so it's not hard for them to fly far out of reach...(the first one I caught was a budgie I caught in my old yard's fig tree, whom I kept and named Fig of course!). So, now...what to do with him...I really don't need another bird, another animal period, in fact my hubby would have a caniption fit if I even suggested keeping him, but I haven't seen any notices up from anyone who might be looking for him, and what if it's not a good home where he came from anyway???? Oh yeah, I kinda like him too..(hehe) he's a cute bird...

What to do, What to do...
